Wikipedia says you don't need treatment in most cases.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to go to a doctor. They're generally really professional, and will reassure you that there's nothing to be embarrassed about.

I'd poke it with a stick.

Or see a doctor... One of the two.

I think I have a sebaceous cyst - down there - but I don't want to go to the doctors about it because it's too, too embarassing, I really don't want to tell my mum (we don't have a very open relationship). Is there anything I can get over the counter such as an antibiotic cream which will help it go down?

Thanks

most people unfortunately tend to rack up some seb cyst during their lifetime. they won't go away.
If its painful and red then see a doctor - you will need oral antiobiotics to clear the infection, although most will go away without any treatment.
but when i say go away i mean stop hurting/being red. the cyst may get smaller, but will always be there. its certainly nothing to worry about (if indeed thats what it is), and not something you would really want to remove (the scar inevitably is more obvious than the actual cyst!)
however, if you are a girl then i can't be sure thats what it actually is. you might be talking for instance about a bartholins cyst. which is something different altogether.

Ok thanks everyone - I'm certainly less worried now - I was sitting here thinking of people cutting me open after I've seen a very large one being drained on work experience and i can't do that! All is well!

Don't worry about seeing the doctor about it. If you're really worried go and see a female doctor. I've been in there about 5 times for mine and I'm used to it now. I also told my mum and I've even shown her it.
I got given antibiotics twice and then some cream, but it's been around since November. At the moment, I'm using Savlon to keep out any infection. Don't poke it.
Hopefully you'll have better like than I'm having.

Good luck
apparently there are creams available??!

My dad had a massive one on his elbow and also one on the nape of his neck. both had to be seen to at the hospital, but it wasn't too bad apparently, cos they were fit to burst anyway  just needed a bit of a poke with a scalpel! i'd go to the docs tho, they should be able to clear it with antibiotics if you don't leave it too long
you sure they were seb cysts, and not 'boils'?
i mean, seb cysts can get inflammed and pus filled, but its more the exception than the norm.

Boils are fun to pop.
It's really annoying when people say 'there's nothing to worry about'. Errm, yes there is if you've got a big lump just where you don't want it.

Try using Oxy 10. It's meant for acne, but the active ingredient dissolves the stuff inside sebaceous cysts, as this is the same thing that causes acne. I've been using it twice a day for two weeks on mine & it's definately got smaller, and before you ask, yes it definately is a sebaceous cyst. Just make sure you don't get it on any clothes because it bleaches worse than chlorine

I know some people will think it's madness but then if they had the same problem they'd understand.

Good luck
