London - Audit- Starting Salary

yes yes yes another "what's the salary?" thread.
but all/most posts i can find are salaries for outside london and/or diff departments

so i just want to get things fully cleared up.

Just London, Just Audit. Big 4, how much is the pay?

I'm writing because I was surprised to find 25.5k as my starting salary, for london Audit. and i'm wondering what you others have got as ur starting salary in big 4.

is there such thing as a difference in pay for diff people? (i.e. depending on how attractive u are a trainee)

and PWC?? i'm assuming they are much higher...

Hey guys,

I also got an offer from EY in London Audit for next year - however, I have an offer from KPMG too, and am pretty much finding it the most difficult decision ever to choose between them! I've literally written out a list comparing pros and cons, and the most significant difference I can really find between them is:

EY has, IMO a nicer office location and office environment itself, and £500 more salary per annum..

and KPMG apparently has bonuses when you reach second year, a daily lunch allowance, and (from the admittedly narrow scope of information I can view and research online), more of a social scene for new graduates, and lots of sports clubs, etc. (For all I know EY may also have these, but I havent heard much of it there at all)

I really am completely torn between the two at the mo - I wondered if anybody has *any* kind of other factors, or opinions on which one I should go for, and that'd be very very much appreciated

Cheers,

Stephen

Remember that the KPMG lunch allowance works out at roughly £650 a year so that would bring it in line with the others.
For what its worth, the new KPMG office interiors in CW once finished are supposed to be even nicer than EY's London Bridge.
Guys, are these salaries quoted here after tax or before tax deduction?
What is the in-hand salary approx?

All these salaries will be gross (before tax) except for KPMG lunch allowance which is a pre tax benefit.
Thanks freeagent
Also, if anyone can throw light on how is the progression (in terms of salary) for someone in Audit after the first year? What is the typical salary increase? I wonder whether it is a dead end until we qualify the ACA for 3 years with no salary reviews...

EDIT: I am completely new to the whole 'accounting' thing. Have an year of marketing exp, but dont see me into it and weighing my options for getting into BIg4 through the audit scheme and finally move into their consulting arm once I pass the ACA.(don't think applying to consulting with Big4 right now is a good option because I learn from other threads that they take very few grads like 10 odd for consulting and since I require work-permit, so my chances are almost zero to get an interview call). But I am quite concerned about salary in the ACA audit track and can't live on a student budget for 3 years on stretch. It will be great if someone can outline the approx salary progression within those 3 years of ACA with Big4. Also, is there a binding contract that you cannot leave the firm in those 3 years?

i think the starting salary in london for KPMG audit this year (and last) is 26.5 k ex the lunch allowance..

typically u wud expect a 2 k increase at the start of the 2nd year, (can be higher /lower depending on ur appraisal grading). You wud also get a bonus in the second year, not sure how much. Any1?

I'm curious how mid tier firms such as Grant Thornton and BDO compare to the Big 4. Does anyone know Grant Thornton audit London starting salary by any chance?

Don't know about London, but outside London Grant Thornton starting salary for audit is no less than £20,000, which is pretty good for outside london, so imagine their London salaries would be good too (though obv not as high as big 4).
