Maybe thread title should read 'due to high winds' rather than 'by'?

I mean, they're strong winds, but not quite that strong.

Its not just cumbria, North Lancashire is badly hit, 55,000 homes across Lancaster and Morecambe are without power until at least Tuesday evening. And severe flooding, with road closures.

For those who are affected (some friends of mine included) I hope everything works out shortly and you're all back to normal for Christmas.

Lancaster Uni student here.
Was evacuated from my accomodation in town! It was absolute chaos. Broken bridges, flooded streets, no traffic lights, no cash machines, no shops open, no trains running and thousands of students trying to get to Preston/Manchester!
Ending up nabbing a taxi with someone and made it home after a crazy 5 hours! I live right on the canal too so we're lucky we didn't get flooded directly!
Some students are staying over at campus tonight until things blow over.
Classes/exams/deadlines have been postponed until further notice! :yep:

Stay safe everyone and have a wonderful Christmas!

I am so glad I live up a hill.

The weather's been terrible, no flooding yet but the river is very high.

Know some people in a little village called Glenridding. The place has been devastated.

Not too bad here, although the roof of the Local mosque blew off.

You live in Cumbria too?
Wow.

Unless you know what he looks like in real life how would you know if you did run into him?

I live in Lancaster (for uni) but it's crazy how small it is and how many people you run into.

Well, I wouldn't know. And that's scary. That's why I'm hoping it won't happen.
