Internship advice

I managed to procure myself an intership at the European Investment Bank.

I would like to work in investment banking when I graduate and I was wondering which division inside the EIB would look best on my resume.

What would you suggest?

If you mean actual investment banking (IBD) and not trading, I'd go with the advisory group. Specifically, the InnovFin group.

Well in terms of IB I'm only familiar with the M&A aspect of the industry.

A lot of people suggested that I get something related to Sales and Trading since it would be more relevant to my course.

Also, Princepieman, thank you for the input.

Computer Science and Mathematics

And I couldn't find anything about M&A on their website.

Same boat here.

If you GENUINELY enjoy your degree, and want to apply all of the stuff you've learned I'd look into proprietary trading firms, quantitative hedge funds and electronic trading in the Sales & Trading divisions of investment banks.

If, like me, you enjoy that stuff but you'd rather focus on learning the fundamental business behind deals, then I'd look into IBD/M&A. You'll be doing more financey stuff (i.e. Maths that is not difficult) but it's a great springboard into other careers down the line - including private equity, venture capital (great for someone with a CS degree), and fundamentally grounded hedge funds.

Another thing to add is, given your exposure to tech stuff, you could specialise into Tech, Media and Telecoms Investment Banking (where you specialise into doing deals/transactions in those industries). This could, as I said. above translate to tech private equity, venture capital or covering technology stocks at a hedge fund.

Two very different paths but both are open to you.

They don't have M&A bro. That's why I suggested InnovFin advisory, because you'll be doing stuff like valuations, recapitalisations, etc.

The EU investment bank isn't a typical one in that they mostly focus on capital raising/structured finance rather than advising on mergers and acquisitions.
