Im looking to buy a reasonably cheap car eg corsa but when i went online, it said the average insurance for young drivers are 2k. Is that 2k a year? Just need to make sure lol and if i wanted to pay monthly (i cant pay it all at once) would the first payment be as soon as the cars mine?

Yeah, it's ~2k a year +/- 500 (best deals, + without black box, - with black box). Though that's more for male drivers.

I'd say the average for female drivers is ~1.5k, again +/- 500.

all cars must be either insured or SORN'd ( that basically means that it is off the road, in a private space)

You cannot keep it on the road, or drive it without insurance.
Price is variable by location, car type, experience, and gender/age

you can often pay monthly, at a premium, rather than annually.
