I met this guy in town and as he looked my age and he asked for my number. I gave it to him and have been texting him.
I've just found out that he's 17, and I'm 22 so I'm 5 years older. That's too much of an age gap for me, so what do I do?
I've messaged him a few times so I feel bad stopping now he's suddenly told me his age..

Quite simple really, just tell him you thought he was older and that the age difference is too big for you. He may not accept that - but that just proves his immaturity, as a mature 17 year would recognise that it is a big age gap and would accept it.

Unless he is very mature for his age i wouldn't mind, see how you find the chemistry with him and then decide.

He's saying 'I'm not that much younger. It shouldn't bother you too much'
My go to move would be blocking numbers but that feels mean..?

When you're 17 and 22, 5 years is a lot. I would just say that and say you don't want to meet up/talk anymore, if he then keeps texting block him.

Well, different people have different preferences. An age gap like that might not be so significant if you are both in your thirties, but with you both being so young, there will be a big difference in maturity and outlook on life etc. Just firmly re-iterate that you are no longer interested. Maybe apologise a second time to emphasize no hard feelings. If he keeps messaging you then block him or just don't reply again.
