Actually, they've got rid of the GNVQs and replaced them with Vocational GCSEs and Vocational A-levels.

physics isn't useful?

its used from massive undertakings such as the hubble telescope down to the streamline shape of your car.

I agree on the user who mentioned first aid. Our school did a night class on it which was a shame, as it clashed with my tuesday night pub quiz. However, if I had the chance to do it again I would probably do it.

I did a first course when I did my lifesaving course but I was tested on it (when I sat my lifesaving exam)so I'm not properly quaified. If my school did a first aid course, I'd sign on straight away.

I'm only quaified to be a Juniour Lifeguard on very small pools.

The whole system's a mess. Scrap GNVQs, scrap VCEs, scrap the AS, and have one simple advanced system called the A-level, which links directly with university degrees.

The vocational qualifications at the moment are either too broad or too specific. I mean, where's Art going to get you? How on earth is that vocational? Business could be related to anything, so if you're going for a job in Human Resources, all you'd have to show for yourself is a little project you did covering a few requirements.

But as I have said A-levels are not just university entry exams, they are a qualification in their own right, showing you have acheived an avanced level of general education.

Don't know how that happened. It wasn't intended and was onto the unsticking before I had read your post.

We do a short First Aid thing at our school in Fifth Year. It is a good idea and adds to your CV.

But it really doesn't need to be an A-level, if you want to be a nurse, it is easy to do a course with St John's ambulance. Two years doing first aid is not needed, you pick up the basics in two weeks.
*in a quiet voice* ok....

hurrah he's got something wrong.....finally!!

They have not got rid of GNVQs because I just sat a 2 year GNVQ Course in Business Studies (Intermediate) equal to two GCSEs.

I was going to take the GNVQ Business Studies (Advance) course = the 2 A Levels at College but my school and mother forced me out of that option.

GNVQs are not a soft option either. I had 6 lessons instead of 3 lessons with all my options and it was coursework coursework coursework. However, I don't not regret taking it.

I'm defin getting two B GCSEs. My coursework (worth 65%) gurantee me my Bs and my three modular exams will take it to the a top B maybe even take me just over to an A.

Sometimes, I wonder Lord Huntroyde if your lying about your age. You seem to know too much about Personal Statements and other stuff for someone in Year 10.

Wrong.

A GNVQ Intermediate is worth 4 GCSEs A*-C. It generally lasts a year for most people and comprises of 6 topical units.

GNVQs don't use the ABCDE system. It takes a much more simpler approach by marking work as a Pass, Merit or Distinction. They're all worth A*-C, so it doesn't really matter what you get. Most colleges will generally require a Merit though.

Coursework? 65%? When I sat my GNVQ in 2001, it was 100% coursework. And from what I've learnt, it still uses the same system.

The GNVQ Advanced was renamed AVCE and now marks students in an ABCDE style. The work is 100% coursework based, with two externally marked portfolios of work, normally consisting of a 15-hour exam. And remember, don't forget to eat your Kelloggs Cornflakes.

Ha. Wrong....the Part One Course is only 2 GCSEs. To do the course with 4 GCSEs at my school you have to be in sixth form.

Duh, but as I said they were = the 2 GCSEs I was working with the grades I get if it was a GCSE course.

Excuse me, I sat this course. What was the point of the 3 exams if they didn't mean anything. Maybe you did a different exam board.
