Random assumption, but unless things have changed in the last couple of years, if you're a first year you only get the choice of two halls (Alloway and one other I think).
They're the ones that are like 3 miles out of town, single sex flats, and generally no internet connection :frown:

Yes I have, but those aren't student accounts of what it's like. :]

Not quite. Think of these more as 'suggested' accommodation for first years; it's not mandatory that every first year must stay at one of the two. I'm currently residing at Meadowside, and am in my first year at Abertay - I simply had to make a request to stay here, rather than at first year halls. Plenty of people do this (there are five of us on my course alone here at Meadowside, so it's not that uncommon).

Anyway, to the OP; Meadowside is £355.50 a month (raised this year from £333.00 a month). If you're not put off by this price tag, let me know and I'll go into further detail about my experiences at Meadowside.

Ah Meadowside is the main one I am interested in. The price tag doesn't put me off, so please do elaborate. :]

Ah fair enough, I apologise  Wish I'd known that actually, cos it probably would have encouraged me to go to Abertay a bit more!

BTW, out of interest what course are you thinking of studying?

Ah thank you for that.

I've accepted an offer for the Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures course.

What's the kitchen like?
What's the Internet situation there?
What happens with TV Licences? :0
Are the beds comfy?
How is the electricity sorted?
Are all of the accommodations self-catered?

And finally, I'm an English chap, reckon my ears will adapt to the Scottish accent?:smile:

4. the – demented – birds of the city (mainly gulls) call at any hour, morning or night, and utter sounds I’ve never heard, or realised birds were capable of making;

You get those ****ers everywhere. I live in the West End and I hate the bastards with a passion, especially early in the morning. One morning I started taking pot shots at them with an air-rifle, but they're fly little sods. Plus it's apparently illegal since they're a protected species. Why? I have no idea.
are gulls protected?! in Aberdeen we're encouraged to not feed them and we hired a few birds of prey to kill the little ****s, is great fun to watch

Ah ok, well I wasn't really thinking specifically about anything with the kitchen as such, just wondered if it's nice and clean and that I guess!

Everything sounds awesome, but the Internet might be a bit of a concern since, well, I play an online game very competitively (Counter-Strike: Source). I wonder if there's anything I could do about this. :frown:
Yeah, I know I should be focused on my course but it's a fair chunk of what I do - I even won a quad-core processor and motherboard to boot at the LAN I went to early this month... right now we're in talks of getting sponsored by an organisation, for free LANs, hardware, site...etc... ;[

https://www.bethere.co.uk/

Offers a 24Mb line for £24 a month, with unlimited downloads and 1.3Mb upload... does everyone there use the Internet? Would everyone chip in like £2.67 per month?
Or If I paid for most of it, would others chip in the rest or would it only be a couple of people willing do you think?

My friend who goes to Staffordshire Uni shares his Internet, basically they all chip in and have a no streaming/downloading/uploading period so they can play. They even have an assigned film downloader during these hours.

Bump - anyone else with any input about Abertay accommodation? :X

To the best of my knowledge, no-one has heard anything yet.

Course, I'm a second year with my own house, what do I care :p:

Yeah I've applied for Heathfield too, how recently did you apply for it?
And yeah it was either the bloody expensive or the bloody cheap which was pretty weird.
Actually, I haven't completed any forms for Heathfield, I've just selected Heathfield on that accommodation application and am awaiting their reply.

I'm kinda worried - are we meant to apply this close to term time?

I can't go into any detail on accomodation as I'm going to be new there myself this year but the internet is included in the price of all the accomodation as far as I know.

I love the irony that most of the people that originally commented on this thread will have graduated this year. :P

Don't know anything about Lyon Street unfortunately but :bump:
