Any super big shows I should be aware of?

Anything to match Haruhi-mania? :awesome:

Talking of which, I'm sure the hare hare yukai turns a decade this year :afraid:

Aside from those you mentioned, last season's Boku dake ga Inai Machi (or ERASED) was good, and got plenty of hype, though only time will tell whether it's still being talked about in several years. Hataraku Maou-sama!, I'd highly recommend, although I preferred the comedy episodes to the more serious ones. Tokyo Ghoul remains popular, though apparently the manga is better. No Game No Life was also big, but I wasn't a fan. That's all really from 2013 to the present, but let me know if you want me to go back further. :p:

The Haruhi Suzumiya anime is indeed 10 years old this very season, along with Black Lagoon, Higurashi, Nana and Ouran to name a few titles that have stood the test of time. What a season. :zomg: That doesn't *quite* make me feel old though, since I wasn't watching anime weekly at the time these came out, so I didn't know what was new and what wasn't. :giggle:

I dropped Seven Deadly Sins originally due to all the fanservice, it was particularly bad in the first few episodes before other characters came along to make the interactions more varied. Glad I went back to it though, as it was really enjoyable later on.

My personal thoughts on the Fate/ franchise (though people often disagree with me on this):

Starting with Fate/Zero is fine, it's a prequel so is set before the others anyway, and in my opinion the best of the anime adaptations (as well as one of my favourite series of all time).
Studio Deen's 2006 Fate/Stay Night series is a bit of a mess plot- and pacing-wise, but has some decent fight scenes at least (though nowhere near as nicely animated as ufotable's efforts).
Unlimited Blade Works TV has the same great animation as /Zero, and makes more sense than the 2006 series, but I found it painfully slow and boring at times.

There are tons of other movies, OVAs and TV spinoffs etc, but those are the main three (five including sequels).

I decided to see both the deen and the ufotable series over the weekend. generally, ufotable series is better BUT i enjoyed the chemistry between the leads better in studio deen version and preferred the ending (although the alternate ending for unlimited blade works was a bit touching). Ideally a hybrid of the 2 would be better than heavens feel (based on what I read about the latter on wiki pages).

Anyone know of anything similar to hotarubi no mori e (other than clannad, ghibli films) I found it really endearing even though it was quite cliched (not that that's bad!)

If series are fine, Mushishi springs to mind in terms of pacing and feel, though it doesn't have the romance. Perhaps Gingitsune for the story of another ageless spirit's interactions with a human girl - it's more of a slice of life/comedy, but it has its sad/melancholic moments.

Natsume Yuujinchou is the first that jumps to mind since it is written by the same mangaka & has a similar vibe. And as AJ said the brilliant Mushishi is definitely worth a look.
Makoto Shinkai's films are also a good watch - 5cm Per Second, The Garden of Words or Voices of A Distant Star would be my picks.

Not that much, actually, though I'm aware I'm in the minority there! Some episodes were very good, and I found Ginko to be an interesting character, but the slow pace and lack of an ongoing story didn't appeal to me.

Yeah I really enjoyed The 7 Deadly Sins - have been following the manga for about a year or so too, definitely looking forward to the new anime OVAs coming out in August.

Yes! I was put off at first by the large amount of fanservice in the early episodes, and still don't hugely like Melodias, but the rest of the cast (as well as the plot, animation and music) made up for that, so I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

It's got a 4 episode TV special coming up in the summer season (August), which should be good... just as long as that doesn't end up being the promised 2nd series. I'd hoped for something a bit longer than that. :sadnod:

The specials are probably just going to be side stories - the mangaka has actually written & storyboarded them, so they'll at least fit with the canon.

I planned to read the manga, but then the anime was announced and I figured I'd wait for that instead. I may pick it up eventually, but probably not until it's been so long that I'm feeling nostalgic for the series and want to revisit the story.

Hope you don't mind, but I've spoiler tagged the last part of that post, for people who haven't started the series or reached that point yet.

Very watchable! It's a huge franchise, with four main TV series, about 26 TV specials, and a few movies, OVAs and spin-offs. Lupin and his gang usually have some different item to steal in each episode; sometimes they're all working together, other times they're competing with each other to get it first, while Inspector Zenigata chases them around. A good mix of action and comedy. It's very episodic too, with no ongoing story from series to series, so it doesn't matter if you watch them out of order. The ones I've watched so far are:

Lupin III Part I - The original 1971 series, a good place to start if you don't mind older animation. The music is quite funny. :p:
Lupin III: The Secret of Mamo - A one episode OVA that I don't remember very well. :o:
Lupin III: Castle Of Cagliostro - Directed by Hayao Miyazaki before he set up Studio Ghibli. Much nicer animation, still looks brilliant by today's standards.
The Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure & The Secret Of The Twilight Gemini - A couple of TV specials that got released on DVD in the UK, they were quite good stories, but only had the English dub option on the discs. :yucky:
Lupin III ~Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna~ - A spin-off focusing on Lupin's love interest/rival/occasional ally. Probably not the best place to start, but a very good series with a really cool animation style.
Lupin III: Part IV - Just finished a couple of weeks ago. I will go back and watch Parts II and III at some point, but as I said before, it all makes sense even if you watch them out of order.

Fine. Yeah, I have heard that four films were extended to 26 episodes here in Europe. Is it right that there are just four films in Japan only? as far as I know Lupin III is the grandson of the ficitonal charactor Arsene Lupin. Is this mentioned in films and episodes?
