magi is the best thing since sliced bread
...can't wait for when Sinbad no Bouken finally airs, as a manga reader it's really good, though it's a shame they won't adapt some of the later arcs.

In fact, after posting, I looked him up and it seems he passed away in January at the age of 81. (...)

That is very sad, hope that he has had a funny life in terms of voicing characters.

(...) Yeah, definitely. The most notable that comes to mind would have to be Space Battleship Yamato's opening:

But a personal favourite would be the second opening from the anime Touch (aired in the early to mid 80s):

The first opening above (Yamato) begins mildly, I would say. But the intonation of the voice after the beginning is really nice.

the latter one below sounds good too, but I guess I would prefer Yamato's opening.

Finished Hidamari sketch. I have to admit I was expecting more random moments of humour and less scenes of sleeping and taking baths. It was ok, but I have no real inclination to buy any future releases.

Also I started reading +Anima properly, several years after reading volume one. Cooro and Nana are adorable.

After rereading AJ's preview thread i've decided to give Haifuri a go. Purely on the basis that it 'could' turn to be as good as Girls und Panzer. However i've said that before and have been disappointed.

So it appears i'm now watching 2 current series' for the first time in a long while!

It's certainly proving to be one of the more unpredictable series of the season for me - even if I hadn't interpreted the 'protecting the sea' part of the synopsis incorrectly, I'd have expected more moe comedy and less drama. :zomg:

Funny you just quoted me as i've now seen the 2 eps. So far I have to say i'm happy with it, I too expected more moe and less drama/action. I'd be interested to see if this keeps up... here is hoping it does.
I just noticed that the A-P Anime Awards voting has started... a while back. If you have an account and want to vote for your favourite characters/series of last year, you have until tomorrow to do so!

On the subject of polls, I've been paying far more attention to the Sanrio character polls, where I'm voting daily for Show By Rock!!'s Plasmagica, Shingancrimsonz and Trichronica, Aggressive Retsuko, and (while not anime) the Mr Men & Little Miss franchise. :giggle:
:tumble:

I've got the final volume of Sidonia no Kishi waiting to be read, hopefully the series will end well, as it's been really enjoyable. I won't be picking up anything new to replace it, instead I'll be dusting off my old Tokyopop Maria Holic volumes, as One Peace have now rescued the series.

I've also got the final volume of the Spice & Wolf light novel coming in the post, though I'm not sure what to replace that with. I guess I'll have to look into whether there are any light novels available on Kindle... it'd be weird reading actual text on the device, though. :zomg: Worse comes to worst, I can always place Haruhi Suzumiya back on my reading list to fill the space, though there's no sign of its hiatus ending anytime soon. :frown:

The deadline for these awards has been extended, due to a low number of votes, in case anyone's interested.
After a week of talking to myself, I got bored and brought back the Anime Caption Thread. :blow:

I hope so! It's definitely been the quietest week since Part 6 started. :sadnod:

Quietly watching... silently judging... I get e-mail notifications for this thread and I can't be bothered to turn them off.
So hi, I'm here.

Halfway through watching the Endless Eight storyline of Haruhi Suzumiya, and I just finished reading the entirety of Mayo Chiki that a friend semi-ironically bought me for Christmas, just in case anyone was interested.

How are you finding Endless Eight so far? I remember it getting a lot of hate (and it must have been painful spread out over 2 months when the series was ongoing), but I watched them all in one sitting and quite enjoyed it. Almost like an animated 'spot the difference'. :giggle:

I can understand why people hated it, especially if it was on a week by week basis when the gap between episodes is too big to remember the details. But I'm liking it so far. It is good to see the subtle differences and make guesses as to the solution. It's like Groundhog Day but as a mystery thriller. The coherent, continuous storyline is way better than the 2-choice system people have when tackling Season 1.

And it's a great way in saving time and money on recording lines.

From what I understand, they actually re-recorded all the voices and reanimated most of it each time. :zomg:

Well I don't know about re-recording the lines, but the characters wear different outfits every single episode to prevent people from claiming that they reused footage. They even address the fact that things are never exactly the same every cycle in the show for that exact reason.

Here's the only example I can find for voice comparisons:
