I'm not a big fan of fillers. Are you?

The only anime which had Filler I enjoyed has been One Piece. So I am not much of a fan of it in general. I just find it rare that it feels as good as the non-filler stuff.

Can't say I've watched any series which had long filler arcs. :dontknow: Single episodes are tolerable, and I haven't minded the short ones from One Piece either.

There's a 39 episodes filler between the main story in Bleach. I was like 'no thank you', then skipped ahead to main story episodes.

Last anime I watched was Attack on Titan (waiting for next season). Angel Beats will forever be my favourite anime. 100000/10 recommend
I finished reading Biomega... :lolwut: It stopped making sense for me around the end of volume 2 (of 6), but it was still enjoyable enough for the action and occasional comedy moments.

Starting Welcome to the NHK! next (all 8 volumes for ~£20 on Amazon Kindle :coma:) - should be almost as bizarre as the series it's replacing, if the anime is any indication.

Speaking of bleacfh I saw this nice little retrospective of anime and fandom from that time. http://goboiano.com/original/4881-bleach%25E2%2580%2599s-ending-marks-an-era-that-was-special-for-all-anime-fans

1 bleach op

This opening was so cool. I like how 95% of it has nothing to do with the series, just the characters looking cool being all music videoey.

Cant remember which filler arc it was.. something with a little girl. But that was finally what got me to drop the series. Was a shame since Id enjoyed the first 60 or so eps but then the quality started to decline.

Gaming for me has kind of always kind of trumped watching anime. Though as my favourite genre is JRPG's there is a bit of overlap . My anime watching is kind of dictated by my gaming lulls. As I like to keep up to date with game releases and generally what is going on with the gaming industry. Currently I am playing Danganronpa and both Overwatch and No Man's Sky on and off.

My work commute is sadly only 10 minutes so not enough time to really watch anything. But I did once stupidly watch some Duarara at work then regretted it when I remembered it's not very safe for work............

An advantage I find with gaming as that your hands are usually kept busy:tongue: no reaching for your phone or opening another tab. A common issue I have when watching anything.:erm:

I don't think I could stop posting on TSR now, my Chrome dashboard stats tell me I visit the site twice as often as Facebook, four times more often than I check my emails, and five times more regularly than I update Anime-Planet. :p: It's true that I might fit in better in an anime-specific forum, but someone has to promote the medium on here, and it was nice to learn at the end of last year that all my threads hadn't gone unnoticed by the TSR staff and volunteers. :proud:

My own blog isn't doing terribly either, I get likes on a weekly basis from the same small but seemingly dedicated group of subscribers. I should probably post something that isn't a weekly rankings post at some point though, don't think I've strayed from that formula since 2014. :giggle: I blame my lack of time due to work and other hobbies... I do still have time for the occasional binge though, as I intend to do this bank holiday weekend.

I was going to mention Anime-Planet as I know you contribute there and are on friendly terms with the site owner, but equally, I'm not surprised that you spend more time here. This is and always has been your home. I'm glad that you're still maintaining your own blog and have built a small but loyal readership. Like anything, maintaining a blog on your own is a commitment and it's difficult to distinguish yourself among the many other blogs that exist. I guess I'm referring primarily to exposure. Larger communities and blogs can give you that, but I do recall us covering this in the past and at the time we both agreed that we preferred sharing our thoughts on anime and manga with a smaller but inclusive group of people, and TSR provides that. Oh, and I'm also pleased that you were recognised for your efforts in this section by becoming a mod. It's rightfully deserved.

I couldn't do a better job than what you've already done with it. :nah: I personally don't think much needs updating anyway, at least not until another Attack on Titan-level series comes along that demands a place in the recommendations list.

Sure, I'm happy to update the recommendation list as and when something else that's hugely significant comes along. I'll admit that, when I was writing the thread, I was struggling to condense the history section. I wrote the whole thing with TSR's core demographic in mind and addressing the common misconceptions the uninitiated have of anime.

Funny you should say that; obviously the chat threads moved quicker, we were getting through a new one every couple of months at peak activity, but I was never the most active in those threads. :dontknow: Even back then I was more preoccupied with keeping the ontopic thread going, and I felt it was a lot more busy then than it was now.

I agree that it was cliquey though, that's the main reason I've done away with the silly names for this thread now that most people have left/started lurking. The previous ontopic thread, my own 'Tentacles for All', lead to a few weird comments from newbies at the time. :p:

As I've said before, and as the mods have confirmed now that I actually talk with them occasionally (:p:), the days of warning people for offtopic posts outside of chat and the now defunct 'society chat' are now over. I've got no problem with people chatting in this thread, to me it makes more sense than to resurrect the old chat thread or start a new one, as that would just spread the small number of active posters out even thinner.

I just wish I knew what prompts TSR members to join the society, but not even stop by to say hello afterwards. :frown:

Yeah, you have always been more focused on the on-topic discussion, which is why you were the most appropriate person to be the co-leader of the Society.

On another note, I'm saddened that I've missed one of your 'identify the anime' threads. Although, it's tempting me to make one myself. Perhaps another video one...

Glad you got round to new HxH. :yep: I remember when I watched the old series after you reccomended it to me. I thought, oh this is a nice pleasant series with a charming young boy having adventures. That part never changed but there was much more to come...

Nice to see that you're still checking TSR from time to time. Hope you're keeping well.

Yeah, it's something I put off for ages, but after people told me that the Chimera Ant arc was one of the best, I had to resume it. In many ways, having watched the original anime adaptation when it aired, all those years back, it was very refreshing to watch this one. And yes, like many long running shounen, the first few episodes can be quite deceiving.

Yeah those thread titles... not exactly the most welcoming sight for people out of the loop. Not to mention what people walking past catching a glimpse of the screen might think. :mmm:

The amusing thing is that I used to post on here when I was at work. :giggle:

On the gaming front, I'm still playing Quake Live, as you've probably guessed. I've been saying for years that the game is dying, but Bethesda's/id Software's decision to stop supporting it by releasing a new Steam only client that has to be bought if you didn't switch in time has really hit the game. However, with the announcement of Quake Champions (something I will definitely try when it comes out), I suppose it's understandable.

Incidentally, a lot of the people I know from Quake Live have moved over to Overwatch. I've watched a few Twitch streams of former Quake pros play it and it looks nice, but it does seem a lot slower, which is one of the draws for me when it comes to Quake, the speed (you know how much I love strafe and rocket jumping). I'm also not too keen on the MOBA inspired elements like classes (which I acknowledge Quake Champions will have), but we'll see... Overwatch should continue to be successful, though. Blizzard know how to maintain and support their games.

Edit: Oh, I should mention that I've backed and will try 2GD's Diabotical. Given that it's an indie game, I'm not sure whether it can compete against the big game studios that have limitless funds, but it looks promising.

Ah sadly I have mastered the art of using gaming controllers or playing games in general one handed so it doesn't help with that too much . It is a art I mastered so I could eat crisps while working..........But because of the mental thought required they do keep my attention a bit more than anime.

Sadly there isn't really a great fast paced arena shooters out at the mo. I was going to say the new DOOM maybe but I haven't heard great things about the multiplayer (though the single player campaign seems very good). Overwatch is pretty good and pretty fast paced though admittedly not Quake levels . I have played one or two Moba's myself though and even with the class system ti doesn't feel like one. The best comparison is probably Team Fortress 2.

So sadly there isn't much I can suggest with out going on a post way too long for a anime thread . But I will shut up about games now as I do tend to go on about them too much

I think I would be fine coming on here with the old thread names while at work as long as it was during break. I have been on urban dictionary while at work before so I have searched weirder things while there

Hey James, it's been a while. Nice to see that you're still alive here on TSR. I feel like we're the survivors from a different era, almost.

Yeah, the gaming landscape has changed and faced paced arena shooters like Quake and Unreal have lost out to CS and its inferior variants, not to mention the rise of MOBA games like LOL and Dota 2. Still, Overwatch is a lot closer to Quake than anything else at the moment, so perhaps I should try it. And yeah, when I first saw Overwatch, TF2 did come to mind.

It does feel like that a bit . Though it doesn't feel too long for me for some reason. Being on nights for 3 years kind of melded a load of time in my head together a bit. But I have come back on and off though I have been more active recently thanks to watching a bit more anime.

The shooter genre has gotten fairly crap recently. It's not just Quake and Unreal. Other titles like Halo, COD and Battlefield have had their own issues. Then I also personally didn't find Star Wars Battlefront great and I have a large dislike for Phantom Pain ;p. But Overwatch has thankfully changed things up a bit. It feels like Blizzard has shown the old formulas work. A fun and a bit silly shooter still works. You just need to do it right . I also dislike MOBA's as well. The only one I ever liked was Awesomenauts which is fairly different from the rest.

Is it a bit nerdy that I want to work out the numbers by using physics to determine how strong a character really is? Like their speed, acceleration, energy and such.

Because I just saw one of the character's special form for the first time. It caused a massive explosion and winds so strong that - even if you tied yourself to a steel bar on top of a building with your clothes, your clothes will get ripped by the strong winds. On top of that, the character was wearing a steel belt (meant to be worn under heavy armour) around their waist, while carrying a heavy artillery on the right arm, because of the special form. All the weight the person carried couldn't even keep them on the ground, even while being tied to a building with clothes. The user was sent flying by their own attack.

Didnt know about that 2GD game, I did know of reflex but this seems to be something different.:beard: Not too sure about quake champions, hopefully it stays true to its roots.

Yeah I saw a pro match and was pleasantly surprised to see Dahang in team.

Nothing is going to come close to that same 1v1 intense duel experience you could get from quake.. (or in my case intense screaming and running away) certainly in terms of speed.

But does feel faster than alot of recent offerings, and some characters are able to move fast. There is potential for skillful movement with certain characters. Nothing like strafing.

Honestly I just find it alot of fun, from the fun and interesting characters to the cool and colourful maps. A few are sadly quite linear but others have more options and the new one looks to be along those lines. I find myself playing it most evenings and having a blast. Im just thrilled to have a fun easy to jump in and out of game that isnt a brown military shooter with 12000 different types of rifle and combat trousers.

I could go on for alot longer but this is an anime thread.:mmm:

Ive read that amv hell is officially finished. A staple of anime cons and something I imagined would always come out every few years. The person running the project cited difficulties with youtube copyright and just a change of interests as the reasons.

Reply 1177

What anime is this from?

I'm pretty sure there was an anime where the MC falls in love with a girl and it turns out it's really another guy, but i cant remember the name so hoping this is the one.

Yeah, time certainly flies, especially when you're working full time. I can't believe it's been nearly a decade since I signed up to TSR and started posting...

The shooter genre has gotten fairly crap recently. It's not just Quake and Unreal. Other titles like Halo, COD and Battlefield have had their own issues. I'm thinking of trying Overwatch, likely next weekend once I get a hold of a laptop that can actually run it.

Admittedly, I haven't even played a MOBA game, so I'm not really qualified to say whether I like or dislike them. What I can say is that one of the main reasons I like Quake 3/Live is that every player has the same thing. The only thing that distinguishes a player from another is their aim, movement and decision making. This simplicity is what makes sport so popular. The moment you start adding special abilities and classes, the game starts to dictate what you can and cannot do. But hey, this is just coming from someone who has never played LOL or Dota 2, so maybe I'm completely wrong, and these features actually enhance the game play. I guess I'll find out with Overwatch.

I remember you mentioning Awesomenauts in the past. The name is hilarious.

It's more I could probably write a essay about whatever I am currently playing which I am not sure how many people would enjoy .

Haha, I have no doubt.

Tim Willits, the creative director and co-founder of iD, stresses that they want to make sure it's still a Quake game, first and foremost, and that fans of the franchise should not fret, despite the introduction of classes. He's even made a point of saying that it's not a MOBA game.

Yeah I saw a pro match and was pleasantly surprised to see Dahang in team.

Yeah, Rapha also has a team, I believe. In Europe, I know Stermy is playing, but I don't think he's doing it professionally. I think Cypher is playing it too. However, from what I understand, pro players from TF2 are transitioning better than those from CS GO and Quake, but I might be wrong about that.

Nothing is going to come close to that same 1v1 intense duel experience you could get from quake.. (or in my case intense screaming and running away) certainly in terms of speed.

Yeah, Quake duel is something else when it comes to intensity. I still have the YouTube videos of you dueling :giggle:

Overwatch seems pretty quick. As I said to James, I might try it next weekend.

The only map I know from Overwatch from watching streams is that Japanese one with the cherry blossom trees. It looks pretty nice.

Can anyone think of an anime(or manga) that focuses on compensation dating? I'm doing an essay about how pop culture has influenced japan and wanted to write a paragraph or so about enjo kosai/ how entertainment encourages this. I remember reading things that contained a lot of it but can't think of what the mangas were called.
