    Does anyone know why you will not have to pass exams for joining the royal statistical society if you go to kent but you will have to pass the exams if you go to the university of manchester?What exactly is the royal statistical society?is something important?

    It's to do with accreditation and whether the course has either been approved by the RSS or not. If the course is accredited then you will get exemptions from the professional exams for the RSS otherwise you have to take the RSS's own exams before you can get professional membership.

    The RSS basically plays the same role as the Royal Academy of Engineering and the other professional institutions. They award professional titles, i.e. giving out Chartered Statistician titles and maintains a state register of professional statisticians for example.

    No. It just means they didn't bother getting accreditation. The RSS is not as large as some of the other professional institutions and many universities don't register courses with them. Let's be honest "Chartered Statistician" isn't exactly the coolest, must have professional title in the world :rolleyes:

    Not many people are interested in becoming Chartered Statisticians hence the demand for accredited courses isn't as great.
