Perfect dress size?

Im writing french coursework on obesity in France and wondered if anyone knew which dress size classed you as obese in France, America and England?

There's no easy answer for this, since it depends upon your height, gender and general body frame.

well plus sizes here usually start at 16 i think?

like someone's said, it depends on the individual. but if it was me and i absolutely had to write about it in dress size content, i'd say 16.

i don't know, i'm probably offending a few people saying that.

i thought the average in england was 16?

i think the perfect dress size is 10. maybe 8/10 but the '8' only suits certain people. i think 10 is the only size that looks great on everyone.

apart from the very tall, most people about size 16 will at least be overweight, maybe obese starts at size 18. Plus sizes starts at a 16 anyway, but i did once see a girl who must have been about 6 feet tall, but she was amazingly toned, had the flattest belly i have ever seen with not an ounce of fat on her and she was a size 16 and no one would ever call her chubby. So i guess it's a bit variable.

Perfect size is different again. Most girls tend to be quite short, so i'd say generally an 8, maybe 10 to allow for curves. I'm 5'8 and look ill as a size 8, so my perfect size where i look slim but with sexy curves is a 10 verging on 12. Girls with bigger or taller builds can look amazing as size 12's (see Rachel Hunter in the 'Stacy's Mom' video - cor i nearly choked on my drink, she looks amazing!)

sizes are a pretty odd thing to pin down anyway, as sizes vary so much from shop to shop etc

But would it still apply today? The dress size people aim for appears to be a 6/8 these days :confused:

i don't think my pelvis/ribcage are physically small enough to be able to get into a size 6 even if they were just covered with skin, let alone any muscle/fat!

yeah course it still applies today. i mean, ok, there's all this hype about 6/8 and size 0, etc, but that's all fine in the model/fashion industry isn't it? size ten may be too big for them but it's not big. when was the last time you saw a fat size ten?

my weight is actually weird. I'm a size 6/8 but it depends on what shop I'm in. When I was around 14 (I'm now 18) i bought all my clothes from new look at size 8 but now some clothes don't fit me. Personally I think the shops have made their sizes bigger.
And just for the record I'm not anorexic or anything like that, I eat like a pig, everyone in my family is just naturally small. I know I eat way too much junk food and I'm really unhealthy. I need to eat more healthily really! But if i cut out the junk food il probably shrink more and I dont want to!

I think the average is 10/12 but some other people I spoke to think its 14 :s-smilie:

The average for our age is probably 10/12 (maybe!) but the size 14/16 figures include all the older women who put on weight around the menopause. Someone's gonna shout me down now lol

there's no way 10/12 is the uk average size. no chance. it's either 14 or 16.

Average female height in the UK is 5'4, and average size is either 14 or 16, but I can't remember which one!

as in dress size or just like their shape(curvy,skinny etc.)

I'm not a lesbian but I think girls look good when their quite small but are womanly with that so probably a loose size 10 :smile:

That's what I'm aiming for atm anyway in my diet

I agree. I think a size 10 is perfect for those of average height and build, i.e 5'4/5. Those who are above 5'7 would probably look better as a size 12. Those who are shorter than 5'2 would probably look best as a size 8/10.
Although this is just my opinion.
