What is Germany/Merkel trying to prove by allowing in unlimited numbers of Migrants?

Soon there will have been over 1 million unscreened migrants accepted to settle in Germany. Merkel and the hard far left of Germany consider this as humane and progressive socialism.
However they are ignoring the effect of how adding an extra million on to Germany's population will affect its welfare system, healthcare, housing, policing and of course national security.
Many of these migrants are also fit and healthy young men, NOT the needy or disabled or woman, children or elderly genuine refugees from Syria. Yet these fit young economic migrant men are being welcomed with open arms.

The biggest concern is that none of these migrants have been screened to ensure they don't belong to any terror networks such as ISIS, thus putting innocent German citizens including women and children in danger.

The attraction of Germany is also a huge annoyance to counties on route like Slovenia, Croatia that are being used by hundreds of thousands of migrants, that's resulting in huge expense to their security and infrastructure also increased crime associate with thefts etc committed by some of them passing through. Its also taking the responsibility and moral burden off places like Saudia Arabia to take their share of migrants. Gulf states have refused to take any refugees!

I'm pretty sure Serbia, Croatia Slovenia and Austria is not thanking Germany for their countries being used as a route for all and sundry.

Just what on earth is Germany trying to show or prove by doing this?

Shes not trying to prove anything, they will have a declining aging population, and is trying to head this off.

Same reason Britain is not taking any migrant, we have a population boom.

The Germans still seem to have some political guilt and fear over WW2 which is terribly sad. Merkel actually believes she's doing the right thing.

I think part of the motivation is WW2 guilt. They want to try and counteract then whole Nazi thing. Going form the country that committed industrial levels of genocide and extreme race supremacy to the country that lets in many refugees is probably a good way of doing that.

Lol, guilt is nothing to do with. It's everything to do with Germany's (and Europe's) low birth rate and the desire to socially craft a non-partisan superstate by creating competition and conflict between different ethnic groups making it easier for the elite to do whatever they want. You really think politicians who are in the pocket of big business are fretting all night worrying about something that happened 70 years ago?

I think one should consider that although Merkel was born in West Germay, she moved with her family to the East and was raised there while Berlin wall was still up, and that could be why she has these socialist views...

Merkel is probably one of the most overrated politicians I have seen.

She is incapable of making strong decisions and tends to choose the path of least resistance flub. This is what she did with Greece. If she had taken the hard road early and followed Schaube's advice (letting Greece leave the Euro until it is competitive again, with a moratorium on debt), everyone would have been better off. Instead she pursued the easy road of more loans and austerity.

This kind of behaviour fine for a weak leader like Cameron and a relatively less influential country like the UK, but Germany, as the industrial centre of Europe with massive influence, needs a strong leader.

I honestly don't understand why thorough background checks weren't made on the migrants being welcomed
