Ah well. What college are, by the way? One of my friends is a prospective "blobologist" (as he tells me Biochemists are called).

that is already very helpful...thank you very much. Do you happen to have an idea about interview timetables at Cambridge?

Thanks in advance

I'm Corpus, my friend's Lincoln. I'd never heard of Blobologist before, but then I'd barely heard of Biochemistry before he applied for it. He said it's what the Chemists call you guys, as you spend your time finding out how different blobs interact, without worrying too much about what's in the blobs.
I'd guess it's a bit like applied and pure maths in a way - the applied guys find what happens, the pure guys then spend 100 years working out why it happens. Similarly, you find out what the blobs do, then the chemists carefully study the blob properties to find out why they do what they do.

From that viewpoint, biochem sounds like more fun then chem  But I wonder what exactly is meant by "blobs"...

I take it you and your friend are both starting this October?

Grades permitting, yes. I'm going to stop pretending I have any idea about Biochemistry know. Blobology just sounds less intimidating, so I'm going to keep thinking of it as that .

Hehe, fair enough. Well, you probably know more about biochem than I do about history and economics! If your friend wants to get in touch, IM me and I can give you my email address to pass on. That's now the third person I know of who has an offer for biochem, apart from myself

Anyway, good luck with your exams

Remember that at Cambridge you can get pooled which may mean second interview. I had mine on the 12th of jan (I think) and found out the week after by phone.

Cheers, the same to you. (Unless you're a Post-Q applicant in which case I'll just be very jealous).

No, I have the standard but evil offer of AAA, and I also envy people with unconditionals  Oh well... at least I've finished my exams  (Are A-level exams still going on? If so, I apologise for gloating)

Oh, and for whoever asked - Cambridge interviews will probably be in the 2 weeks after Dec 4th, but remember that if you are called back for a pool interview, that will be mid-January.

A levels are still very much going on :frown:. Bloody Scots. Finish their exams early and act all happy for weeks. Just not fair.

When do you find out the exact interview dates? Do Cam write to you after you've applied or something?

Oops sorry. But atleast you have a modular system, so you can walk into an exam knowing you only need a C to get an A overall... imagine the pressure of a single exam determining your entire grade :frown:

Yes, different colleges will vary slightly, but once your application has been processed they will write to you and invite you to interview. They will probably give a rough indication in their acknowledgement letter, but it won't be any more specific than what I've just given.
