How long for an ENT Consultation?

Right, so I've had blocked sinuses for just over a year now (have posted about it previously)

Well finally went to the doctor again and he referred me for a sinus XRay.. well..

I phoned up the number for the hospital and they said they don't DO sinus XRays, you need to be sent to ENT for a CT....

Now am I right in thinking it is going to be a hell of a long wait for a CT? My doc said it would be 'months' but how many? 3? 6? 12?!

In the meantime I've been given some nasal spray (nasobec containining Beclometasone)

I've had a headache for a year and frankly, I don't want one anymore!

I'm at the Norfolk and Norwich university hospital, for me to get an original consultation for a CT (I have nasal polyps) it took I think a week or two for the appointment to come through via letter to me, then another 2 months until the actual appointment/scan after that. I think it depends on the hospital, waiting lists differ from place to place.

on the NHS it will be a long time. Thats the NHS, but i it is really causing problems your GP ma be able to fast track you if possible, i.e. its an emergency. or you could go private but costs an arm and a leg.

How would I go about going private?

I recon you would be looking at three months really (i had to wait two months for an ENT referral for a tonsillectomy, despite the fact i was getting tonsilitis once a month and secondary infections)! I went private in the end for the op itself. Best way would be to tell your GP you wish to go private and they can sort it from there.

Hello

Thanks for the help.. I think I might leave it til after exams then make another appt at Unidocs and ask about going private. Like I said, it's been a year and although I've learned to live with it, I'd rather be without it!

i honestly do not know the process for going private unfortunately. the best thing is to ask someone who has gone private since i have never been private and do not know how to do it. I presume you hpone up some private health insrance companies and see what they do. Honestly no idea sorry.

Thats fair enough! If you are lucky, you might already get an appointment by then (pretty unlikely though)! You could always go private if they recommend specific treatment and get the consultation for free, who knows! The ENT department at the hospital is very good btw!
