Has anyone cured their insomnia?

I've heard every suggestion about improving sleep quality, but I'd like to hear if anyone has actually succeeded in it.

My problem can be called sleep-maintainance insomnia; I fall asleep easily at first, but can't stay asleep. I wake 1-8 times per night, sometimes for hours at a time. It has been about 1.5 years now. Recovery from exercise is literally impossible, and so is mental learning etc.

So if you've had a problem like mine, and fixed it, please let me know what you think was the solution for you.

Thanks dudes

I've cured mine, but in a way that I wouldn't recommend.

I took sleeping tablets around 9pm, so much so that they practically knocked me out until 8am when I had set my alarm. I forced myself into this routine for a week until naturally my sleep pattern fell into place.
Also, during the day do a lot of both physically and mentally tiring exercises.

However - I wouldn't recommend becoming dependent on sleeping tablets, and also it does not work with a lot of people.
Good luck.

yea, there's various chems that would knock me out and keep my knocked out, but they just **** up your sleep even more. Decreased hormone synthesis and less REM sleep, etc. It isn't like real sleep.

My daily pattern of activity and sleep is ok, I think. I get tired when it gets dark, and go to bed, and fall asleep. But I don't sleep deeply and wake very easily.
I presume you've already asked your GP? I dont need to tell you his advice will be better than anything you read on TSR

I did use to get something similar to what youre describing. But to be honest i don't know what cured it. Perhaps: blood sugar levels (try messing with your diet especially dinner and see if that helps), noisy house (earplugs), light (make sure its completely dark), try sleeping somewhere else in the house, cut out caffeine, nicotine, other stimulants?

GPs have prooved consistently **** at everything I've gone to them about, tbh. I got a leaflet about how to sleep well, with really basic advice, and basically "oh, you'll get over it". Nothing is taken seriously by GPs. I've had nothing but frustration from them (this, and other problems)

I haven't found any correlation with my diet and the sleep. I'm very interested in my nutrition so I'm aware of my diet, and think I'd probably notice if I came accross a difference. I don't use any drugs, earplus are a bit of a double-edged sword. They are basically highly addictive. I used them last year and it took my months to get off them when I finally did.

Thanks, dude

You lucky people! I went through a period where I thought I'd cured it, but I haven't. I'm trying acupuncture to see if that'll help.

*looks at clock* ;no;

I just stay up until my body can't function anymore. Then I pass out on the nearest cushioned surface.

Well its 4:31AM, so no.
Dont go on tsr in the evening or at night, computer screens stimulate you to stake awake. Go out in the sun/daylight, so your body will produce melatonin - you can also get this to take at night as a mild sleeping pill thats nots addictive. Also lack of exercise can cause sleeping problems.

I tried everything. Only pills now give me sleep.

everyone, note that my insomnia is not to do with sleep-onset, but sleep-maintainance. I initially fall asleep readily, but can't stay asleep. For example, last night I slept from 10-2, then was awake/asleep 90%/10% from 2-9, just slightly too dazed to do anything about it.

Melatonin doesn't have any consistent effect on me.
The only thing that can be suggested is to do lots of exercise.

Do people have electronic equipment in their rooms? You should make your room electronic free, and do not turn lights on or use any electronic stuff when you wake up at odd times.

Do you fall alseep during the day or feel tired all the time as a result?

You can survive with 5 hours sleep, just do more excercise and work during the day and hopefully you will stay asleep longer after wearing yourself out for a few weeks.

I have no elctronics on in my bedroom at all, no lights on after sunset either.

I can't do loads of, or indeed any, exercise - BECAUSE I can't sleep. My main interest is various athletic pursuits and without sleep it is impossible to recover from training, so it becomes entirely damaging.

Again, it is not that I am too alert at night and need to wear myself out. I fall asleep easily. I do not stay asleep, nor do I sleep deeply. Doing more (any) exercise just makes things a lot worse.
well it seems youve tried everything and know why everything doesnt work for you.

I was just saying things that have helped me, but my insomnia obviously wasnt as bad as yours is and mine comes and goes.
I had short term insomnia, due to stress when I was doing GCSE's :p: but it went away on it's own in the end I fear it may be returning though to all the work I have at the moment;:frown:
