I read one of them ages ago and I barely got through that. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy reading it, but I felt a sense of commitment to finishing it.

I read one at school. It was really bad. I didn't enjoy it and none of the characters felt real.

I was a voracious reader as a kid. I remember reading some of my mam's Nick Hornby books when I was still too young to understand about 20% of the words and probably at least a third to a half of the intricacies of the plot.

I ploughed through the Artemis Fowl books purely because they were dead easy to read and didn't really require much thought (not in absolute terms but even by childrens' standards)

I read one back recently and I couldn't believe quite how bad it was.

On a semi related note: what did you think of the Alex Rider books (if you read them)?

Compared to Artemis Fowl, they were great. The "School library" didn't exactly have much in the way of variety.

I did, I found it to be terrible and incredibly boring.

I think like Percy Jackson, and the Young Samurai series, they were more books which were intended for a young teen audience. Outside that, you could see just how simply (and often poorly written) they were.

I actually found it pretty decent, if not for Riordan's usual deadpan humour.

For some reason I keep clicking edit on your posts, then shake my head and remember to hit reply. Anyway, let's leave this mess behind us and not derail the thread.

I enjoyed most of them, but the last couple were really bad. The characters became almost like caricatures and everything was boringly obvious. I wish it had ended just that little bit earlier.

Utter ****e. Read them and just thought, anyone can get published these days it seems. Like so many book series in my childhood they were supremely overrated by people I knew. Definitely fowl alright

I read them many years ago, but I can only remember that I didn't understand it.
