Self taught A Level Maths/Further Maths over summer

Hi.

Was wondering on what you guys think of the notion of teaching yourself A levels maths over the summer? Or further maths and dropping the "further" bit to retain a complete A Level Maths - which ever is faster of this summer.

Is this possible? For someone who attained high B (getting 99% of intermediate paper at GCSE) And can it be done over summer? And sat at your previous college over january exams(with aqa or something?)

Yes you would be able to do it. I dont understand what you mean about the further maths thing though :s:

Depends how much time you can put in. If you have a job and are planning to take long hours then no, I don't think you'll be able to. If you don't and are willing to spend a lot of time on it then yeah, it's possible.

I think you're getting a bit confused with the whole maths/further maths thing though. You can't just take further maths without maths, the content in the further pure modules requires knowledge of the content in the core modules in normal maths.
I'm attempting to cover AS further maths in little over a month. We'll see what happens

Oh, and I did intermediate maths as well (but originally got a C), and coped with A-level Maths (AS was done independently). So you should be okay, since you did get a pretty high mark :p:

If you put the time in, yes.
yeah it is possible - time + past papers - and yea - if you did do further maths without the further - its a lot quicker, you do A level maths in a year

yeah, what I meant with the further maths is that in my college, if you take it up and decide not to take it onto the second year, you gain a qualification of A level Maths where as you'd get that and AS Further Maths if it where carried on for the second year.

So I'm thinking of studying further maths instead of AS+A2 maths over the summer simply because its quicker.

Also, what are the chances of being able to sign-up for AS level maths sit in for this year? Do most exams occur in july? If so, I may just study AS Maths and get that out the way over these few months leading to july and take up A2 maths independantly.

They start late may. But the maths modules are likely to be from early june to mid-june. It is still possible to enter now, but it is likely to cost around £80 per module.

Mine was £65 per mod, but this centre wanted it to be in two days ago... Generally, from phoning round, they're around £80. Perhaps it's the location? Probably more expensive in the south east
