The calculator would express it as "abs", or "absolute value".

|x| = abs(x)

dont know about ur calc... but i have a thing called abs(variable) in mine

I might be wrong but if you're thinking of using it in p2 just check you're allowed to.

Just checked my 9850, don't know if it's the same, but on mine it's OPTN then pick NUM from the menu at the bottom, then Abs is the first on the left.

in OCR P2 they allow graphical calculators

edexcel u can as well

Candidates may use any calculator EXCEPT those with the facility for symbolic algebra, differentiation and/or integration. Thus candidates may NOT use calculators such as the Texas Instruments TI 89, TI 92, Casio CFX 9970G, Hewlett Packard HP 48G
