Being paid to do a degree?

I think that you should only be paid if you actually took a job as a maths teacher; maths graduates going into different jobs won't really help sort out the teaching problem.

The problem with that (along with giving maths teachers a biggger salary), I'd guess, is that the teaching unions would be completely against it.

i don't really agree with it- i have friends doing maths (and i'm doing a joint with maths) and i don't know how many more people would be persuaded to a maths degree cos of money, cos lets face it you have to be pretty enthusiastic to do maths at uni + like katy says you'll probably just get a higher drop out rate.
