Keeping heavy earrings on your ears, without the backs falling off!!

My boyfriend recently bought me some beautiful ornate earrings which are jewelled and about two inches in length, and as a result, they're quite heavy and the backs they came with just won't hold them in place.

So I know its an unusual question but what do you use to keep heavy earrings on your ears? Do I need special backs for them? Unfortunately they're straight through your ears and not the ones that drop once they've gone through.

I had a look on ebay for earring backs but I have no idea if any of them would work :confused:

i have some slightly bigger than usual butterflies that have a ring of rubbery stuff with a metal ring through the middle, they tend to work better than the usual metal butterflies.

I use those plastic backs too... they're the only things that hold my bigger/heavier earrings in place.

They're the kind that came with the earrings I've got, but they just slip straight off! They don't even hold them on for more than 2 seconds :s-smilie:

do you think it's just the ones I've got and that others might work?

Thats bizzarre.. maybe the holes on yours are too big?? I wouldn't expect that though! They're quite cheap though so maybe its worth a try anyway? that and I end up losing butterflies all the time so some extra ones won't hurt!

you're probably just gonna have to try loads of different backs...

i have some that are way too big for the earrings that they came with, and others that are small and really tight to get on! trial and error, methinks :rolleyes:

Sometimes, if you take earrings to jewellers (especially modern ones that tend to have small boutiques), you can get the backs changed so they're the kind that 'loop' through your ear and don't need backs.
