The Student Room Group

University of Edinburgh - FUNDING

Dear Colleagues,
I am a from Republic of Moldova. Recently I was accepted for an MA program at the University of Edinburgh. In order to be able to study at the University of Edinburgh, as a student from outside the EU I have to pay the tuition fee (8550 GBP per year), plus the living costs (~8400 GBP for 50 weeks) and other required expenses, the total sum equaling around 17500 GBP per year.
I hope to find at least the money to cover the tuition, hoping to be find some job there to cover the rest of expenses.

I would be very grateful if somebody could advise me about existing possibilities of receiving financial support from an institution giving funds (scholarships) for studying in UK. The British Council, does not offer anything for studying in Edinburgh. I also inquired at the University of Edinburgh and they do not have anything either. If somebody has some ideas please help me. Thank you very much.

Edinburgh offers limited funds for impoverished overseas students via the Common Bursaries Fund (available to EU, Overseas and Self-funding students)

These funds are provided by the University to help students who are experiencing particular financial difficulty but who are ineligible to receive an award from Government Funds. These funds are very limited and as a result the maximum award which can be made is capped at £600.

You could also see whether your government will make a contribution.

Edinburgh has lots of information on scholarships available

I'm planning on going to Edinburgh, and although I'll only be paying the English rate for tuition fees, that figure for living expenses seems far too high. By about two or three thousand pounds.
