Tried to make as short as possible! Please bare with me, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
.......
Basically I used to be 'addicted' to porn and viewed it far too much. Over the last 2 and a bit years I've heavily reduced my viewing, and now I don't watch any porn. I've been 'clean' like this, for about 6 months.
Anyhow.
Whenever I go on Instagram or Facebook and use the search function, I always get a handful of accounts/pages of models, pornstars, etc I used to search for, click on, etc.
No matter what I do, they still appear in my search.
I've cleared search history's on both, yet they still show as suggestions.
Lets take Instagram, and Carly Rae Jepsen as an example.
I only have to type in the letters 'Ra' and she appears as the top hit. Sometimes just one letter will do it. This is despite my search history being cleared. I've even tried blocking accounts on insta, but they still show as suggestions.
I've logged out, deleted the app, restarting my phone, downloaded it again, logged in but it still happens.
Facebook is easier to control. You can clear your search history from your activity blog. They can still sneak into your suggestions, but at a much lower down priority, and if you block them they won't show at all, like they don't exist. You can't do this with pages however.
I wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to solve this?
The reason why I want to sort this out, is that 5 months ago I got together with my girlfriend. We're open with a phones, use each other's, etc. Same with my friends too.
I don't want them to come across them in the search suggestions, as quite frankly it's an embarrassing part of my past, plus I don't want them to think that this is a recent thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The cache from some apps remains even if you delete the app itself. Have you tried clearing those?

There doesn't appear to be an option to do so. I've gone into settings and looked at the individual apps setting, however they are pretty limited and don't seem to have any options to clear cookies or cache.
There is on safari, which I've done but they are obviously separate things.

I should have added I'm using an iPhone 6.

There isn't a way of deleting the cache of specific apps if the app itself doesn't have an option to do so. Leaves you with two options:
- Clear the entire cache of the phone. You'll have to find a third-party program to do so.
- Factory reset the phone. Sounds drastic, but if it's to protect your relationship, it may be worth it.

If I were to back up my phone (so I've still got my pictures, music, etc), and restore it from the back up, will that also restore everything including cache?

Probably. You could manually re-add the apps / music / pictures without doing an automatic restore though... trying to remember how it worked on my old iPod

Have you heard about that? Might be worth a shot before trying a full factory reset?

I know nothing about technology but
i say factory reset
copy your photos onto the computer and sync your itunes music
write down all your contacts on a piece of papers or screenshot them and save them as pictures too
reset and put all your photos, music and apps back and re enter your contacts and BAM done!
i know with samsungs your email can back up your contacts but idk if that works with iphones
good luck!
