Hi everyone, hope you are all well and are enjoying your weekend. It is just to remind you to feel free to ask me questions concerning sociology and/or my overall experience at Middlesex. I am going to update you on my week so you get an understanding of a student's typical life.
So, this week has been good. Other than attending my seminars and lectures, I have been centred on trying to fulfil my tasks for the SLA newsletter. On Monday I met with my group and in 45 minutes we discussed the layout, the colour scheme (which is turquoise by theway) and the photo-taking of the remaining SLA contributors. I was responsible for taking photographs of these SLAs as we had to match their image to the texts they wrote. My aim was to take “action photos” for instance, I took a photo of the senior SLA (Julia) who manages the rota for the SLAs working at the Study hub since it matched her statement. On Tuesday I met with the SLAs and unfortunately my attempt to take action photos did not go as planned as I had to bear in mind the time limit (the deadline which was the following day) and take the pictures according to the SLAs free time. That day I was pressured to take all of the photos and therefore, it was quite difficult to do so as I had other commitments in the university also. Though it was stressful having to do many things in a short amount of time, it has been fun because not only did I miss my camera but I had a good laugh with the SLAs. Finally, after having thought that my group would not meet the deadline becausewe all had other responsibilities, we successfully did; we managed to accomplish the final layout with the text and photos in time.
Other than my SLA newsletter, I assistedfirst year criminology students (as I am an SLA for criminology) with their employability portfolio on Wednesday. The sociology and criminology course allowsstudents to develop their skills and capabilities throughout their study. This portfoliois very beneficial because in the meantime students get to update their portfolio with the skills gained such as, interpersonal, analytical and manymore. At the end of the course the portfolio will be completed and ready for display for employers rather than being done again. The employability portfoliois excellent because students can be creative with their folder, using colourand images that not only make it appealing but so that the images reflect the skills and experiences they acquired.
On Thursday and Friday I simply wentin for my seminars and lectures which were very interesting for instance, formy SOC2510 Contemporary social theory module I learnt how to interpret symbols and images taking a more sociological approach. We looked at patterns on rugs and how they may represent society and people’s paths.
That is all, I hope you havefound my week interesting and don’t forget to come back next week for more insightof the course and what I have been up to. In addition, do not hesitate to ask me questions as I am willing to answer.
Have a good week!
