Stiff neck.

Hey.

I woke up this morning with a stiff neck. All day i've had it, it's not as bad as normal but if my head suddenly moves, it does hurt.

Anyone know how to get rid of it or does it just have to go naturally? Anyone know what it is exactly and how it is caused? I believe if you go to bed with wet hair or if your window is open at night, both of which i usually go to bed with.

It will go naturally  gently massaging it may speed it up a bit but there's not much else you can really do,if it doesn't go away after a few days see a doctor I'd advise.

It may have just been the way that you were sleeping.

Generally it just goes away naturally, although if it is very sore a painkiller may help.

Edit: good idea about the massaging Lilian, this could do a lot to help! (increasing the blood circulation/flow to the stiff area etc.)

I once heard that going to be with wet hair can give you a stiff neck. No idea how, or why, though ...

But yes, it's probably just that you were sleeping at an awkward angle. I'd get someone to give you a massage if I were you

It mostly has to do with how you slept - you probably just had you neck in an odd position this night.

Pain killers work the best - preferably in gel form so you just treat the area that hurts. Heat should also help, like placing one of those microwave bean bag thingies on your neck to help the muscles relax.

Otherwise it'll just go away on its own before the next day, so no worries

Just leave it to go. Thats what I normally do when I'm stiff. And though getting someone to massage it may seem like a cool idea, it could also aggravate the problem.
Just sleep normal, without normal hair and shut your window. Massage your neck when you wake up, and rotate your head when you're up.

Did you try to swallow a viagra pill which ended up getting stuck in your throat? It might be that...

Usually it's a muscle or tendon in your neck that's been stretched oddly when sleeping - you might have moved oddly in the night and pulled a muscle and not noticed it because you were asleep. It will go away on its own, just try not to force your neck too far round to where it hurts. But equally, don't go to the other extreme and overprotect yourself, because that interferes with the healing process. Just go to sleep with it comfortable and, 9 times out of 10 it's gone by the morning.
