Why can you not swim? Would you take lessons?

I didn't take swimming lessons but I can swim.
I kind of just did it, most of my family did.

A surprising amount of my friends can't, only admitted it recently so was a bit of a shock.

Was that meant to be a stereotype of some sort because it went totally over my head

It's my great shame that I can't swim.
It's such a ubiquitous skill that this is almost tantamount to a confession of illiteracy.

I've only got my 50m badge. Then I quit to play on Nintendo 64.

I can't swim.
I used to be able to - I took lessons - then when the time came for me to get my certificate, I was denied it because I couldn't "front crawl". I could only swim "froggy style".
Apparently you have to be able to swim a certain way to gain any sort of recognition.
Needless to say, I never bothered with swimming again. I can't remember the last time I went for a paddle in a pool or the ocean...

Honestly. I can't actually swim. But I don't stay in the shallow bit if I do go to the pool I go to the "deep end" However that is because I can stand up in it obviously i probably wouldn't if the water was taller then me.

I would like to at some point in the future, yes. Right now I'm kind of frightened by the thought of being a 19-year-old among a bunch of middle-aged folks trying to learn how to swim.
But yes, I think that I would have to learn at some point, because it would be the most pointless death ever if I were to drown simply because I didn't learn this basic skill.

Think I got to a 1km badge, in hindsight it surprises me that it went that far
Or was it? No, we had to swim 1km in our young lifeguard training thingy that I did a few years ago... not an easy feat, don't think I would be able to do it now
