It's still a fairly long time away but does anyone have any plans for summer yet?

And has anyone has done anything over past summers that they would recommend?

I'm looking to get some ideas because, of course, certain things need to be organised in advance.

I'm thinking of looking for relatively relaxed work, really unrelated to my academic work, but I don't know where to look.

Start looking up those summer opportunities (especially the paid ones)

Any work or volunteering really, for the latter just email around charities and nursing homes (if you can go for ones which specialise and are smaller the work will probably be a bit more interesting and there's a better chance of getting a job with them later)

Volunteer for a charity- I went into a charity office twice a week in summer of my second year of uni and that was a nice balance between having something constructive to do & having holiday time.

Volunteer for music festivals? I did Eden Festival last summer and it was amazing! It's easy work for a free ticket and plenty of fun at the festival

that's a great idea, thanks. I'll definitely look into it. maybe it's something that doesn't have to be limited to summer too
