Parent problems! Does anyone else get this at uni??

Im in my first year at uni and living at home. I really enjoy socialising so I go out with my friends quite a lot. 3 times a week or so usually. This actually drives my dad crazy. He gets really angry and doesn't realise that going out is a normal part of uni life. My mum is ok with me going out but sometimes I think my dad would prefer if I didn't go out at all and just stayed at home studying. I think its a cultural thing. In the country he was brought up it was something bad to go out, and people at uni don't see it as a social experience but a place to study full stop. How can I convince him? Are there any other people in my situation?
move out asap! it would drive me *insane* to live with my parents and just think of all the things your missing out on.

Can you show him work you have done that has been graded good by your teachers? Just try and prove that you are doing well in your course, he can't argue with you then

My Dad is like that too. That's why when I got offers from universities in my home town, and Universities from other cities...it's clear I didn't stay at home!

The thing is, he will always think you're going out too much. Even if you tell him you only go out once you've met deadlines etc. It's just how some parents are. Not much you can do I'm afraid.

But I was able to avoid him and his stupid rants by moving out. He eventually came up with the stupid idea of communiting 60 miles a day so that he can keep an eye on my socialising habits. Honestly, parents sometimes need to realise if their son/daughter is passing exams/assignments at University...then it shows intelligence, independence and clearly however they're deciding to spend their free time, it's healthy and contributing to success.
