speed camera on the other side of the road

I was driving along this long 30mph road at around 40 and started slowing as I approached the speed camera on my side of the road. However the speed camera on the other side of the road was closer as they were slightly staggered and it flashed me from the front before I reached the camera on my side of the road. There were no other cars around that I were aware of and at that instant i was doing about 35mph, but i'm thinking surely the speed camera only flashes people on that particular side of the road, where the lines on the floor are?

Yeh you will be fine

You'll be fine. I mean you could go through one on your own side at 35 on your speedo and nothing would happen.

The lines are there so people on the other side can't go onto the other side of the road and speed.

what? no they aren't.. the lines are there so that the camera can calculate how fast you are going past... like from one line to the other... so that it can flash you if you are over the limit.

and yes, if you went past a camera at 35 in a 30 zone, it will flash you..

What are you on about?

Theres lines on both sides of the road so you cant go into the opposite lane and try to not get done.

35 in a 30 zone on your speedo will be fine. 10% speedo error, 10% speed camera error = you're fine.

Ryan, your right about the 10% +2 but what the hell are you going on about with the lines!?

The lines as Pumpkin said are there to calculate your speed when the radar fails through the speed=distance x time formula, however, i have never seen these lines painted on the other side of the road to where the camara is. The camara takes a pretty panoramic shot so if you go onto the other side of the road it doesn't matter because the shot has still got you and the police use the radar speed but also they can still use the lines on the right side of the carriageway.

I'm confused by your post! But basically, there are very speed camara locations where lines are printed both sides of the road, the camara takes a wide angle shot and the rozzers can calculate your speed first by radar and second by the lines on the right side of the carriageway.

Graham I mean the lines are on both lanes purely so that you can't go into the other lane, The lines are needed to prove your speed, so if you go into the other lane and there's no lines they can't prove anything, does that clear it up lol

Yeh i agree the lines are needed to prove your speed...but i have only ever seen them on one side of the road, for that particular camara if that makes sense.

My mate got done for this very circumstance...he thought he would be clever and go through a speed camara on the other side of the road and guess what, flash and a NIP a week later. But there were only the lines on the one side of the road yet it still held up because they could prove he was going that fast using the lines because of the wide angle lens...or something!

Are we both singing from the same hymn sheet but different verses!?

The distance lines are usually on both sides of the road, although maybe id depends on the Police/Camera Partnership area. AFAIK, you won't get flashed traveling in the opposite direction of the camera, but as mentioned, you would if you were going say 45 on the wrong side of the road.

I always thought they were like this, lines on one side of the road...obviously its different in different counties! Bloody rozzers!

Round here they're all on both sides of the road graham! Thats where the confusion stemmed from lol

Oh wow! The pigs really are pigs!

here they are on both sides everywhere too, but going towards a Gatso camera you can't get caught speeding some of the other ones can though AFAIK
