Well, in terms of consent, sometimes participants giving full consent will mean they have to know everything about the study, which may change the results as they show demand characteristics because they know what the psychologist wants. Sometimes deception can be justified that way.

Also, p's can be deceived if they are debriefed afterwards, so deception can take place that way as well.

I've studied one where the psychologist did some really dodgy study and claimed that they shouldn't be penialised because there 'are worse studies being carried out'. Not sure if that's quite the same thing, but the study was published none-the-less.

sometimes, but there are some that cant be broken without the BPS board giving personal consent, such as animal work, and severe psychological harm...

although i did hear any interesting article which said that psychological harm was allowed in some cases as the experimenter was offering free counselling afterwards...which i found quite funny...

I agree...if an important discovery is made that could not be found by any other means then genearally it will be accepted as necessary.

im just an odd ball..
Psychologists always question whether the ends meet the means...

i suppose this is fair...

if research harms a few ps but allows future generations to understand an important behaviour and give good suggestions for the betterment of human kind then isn't it ok???
