upset my girl over summit so stupid!

Ok so basically ive been spking to some of my gf's closest friends on msn for about 6 months now. I have never met these people however speak to them online most days. The problem is they are upset because I wont call them "my friends." Yeah i think they are really great people and I enjoy speaking to them but seeing as I have never met them I would find it strange to call them "my friends." My gf has found this very offensive and she isnt happy with me :frown: and I just cant understand why! Even at uni there are ppl i say hi too but i wouldnt necessary call them my friends because i just dont know them that well. What are your opinions on this? Would you be offended?

No, because what you say is true. But I don't think you should be angry at your GF for reacting this way.

Have you explained to her, like you have here, why you don't class them as your friends? I can understand why she might have reacted how she did, but think your explanation is totally reasonable and she should understand if you explain.

I think quite often girls kind of have a lower threshold for friendship than men do. For example one of my friends was worried that her boyfriend hadn't made many friends at uni because he would just talk about one or two people as friends; but when she went to visit him, he associated with alot of other people she would have regarded as his friends. From talking to other people/observation I get the impression that this example is quite typical.

I'd be pissed off with them. Have a big argument with them for pissing you off.
