Is it possible to switch your final year of study to another university?

Hello

First off, thank you for reading this post!

My current situation in a nut shell is that I've been studying at my current uni for the past 2 years (in 2nd year as you could probably conclude) and I have not been satisfied with the overall running of the programme (BSc Animal Behaviour and Welfare) - the final straw came the other morning when I found I had failed an assignment due to "lack of understanding of the essay title! - bearing in mind I had emailed the tutor and she had said i could go about the essay in any way I wanted to as long as it addressed the LOs and essay title - to which I did....

Anyway (rant over) I want to finish my second year where I currently am - but transfer to another university to study my final year .... Is this possible!!!??!!!

Has anyone been in this situation before? How did you go about it? Were you successful?

Again, thank you for taking the time to read this message, I'm sorry if it isn't in the correct forum - I'm new to TSR so I am learning promise!

(Thanks again!)

I transferred after my second year. I was made to repeat that second year so graduated a year later.

I contacted the university I was transferring to and asked if they'll allow it and the reason why I was transferring. When they said yes, I told the current university I was leaving and asked for reference. I then formally applied through UCAS

If I was asked to re-take my second year would student finance possibly still cover me? I've heard about this 3 years + 1 year that they will support for me.

When formally applying through UCAS can you re-use your old personal statement? And also can you specifically input that you wish to study the second year?

Many thanks for reading and responding to my email its much appreciated

If you've only used 2 years of student finance then you should be ok for another two.

You can reuse your previous personal statement but probably best to write a new one. I can't remember whether I've specifically input transferring to second year but admission in the new uni should be able to tell you more about the application process.

I'm applying to a different uni after a year at my current one , there level requirements are much higher , but I'm thinking if i got 1;1 ( 1st this year ) would that say boost my qualifications for them to consider me ?

I'd suggest to email them and inquire about whether or not they would accept you (contact admissions) and explain your situation and the grade you are working at.

But I mean if your working at a 1:1 (well done by the way!!) and you didn't get the A-Levels or equivalents they wanted for first year entry I don't see why they wouldn't - also if you pass your first year you have a level 4 qualification so that is greater than A-Levels etc!

But I would probably email the university admissions department and see what they say ! Good luck!!

SFE usually fund the length of the course + one extra year- which is a bit different to being able to get 4 years of funding spread across two different institutions. They're usually happy to fund retake years or 1 year at a different institution, unfortunately 2 + 2 years isn't seen in the same way as 3 + 1 years, so OP is in no way guaranteed student finance.

The issue is that a lot of universities don't like including assessments from other unis in their final degree classification- hence not wanting to accept students directly into third year. If you get a first this year, it may help you get into second year at another uni. The only way to find out is to email them and ask.

BTW, can I ask which uni you're currently at? I only ask because Animal Behaviour and Welfare was also my undergraduate degree and I'm curious. Feel free to PM me if you'd rather.

I answered this in the same way I was answered by SF and I never had any issues regarding funding and transfer. Ofc OP should phone them for confirmation but I answered what I knew.

Also this may depend on each course and uni but I didn't get a good grade in my second year and it was fine. They seemed more interested in finding out why I was transferring.

Bottomline OP should just phone SF and the uni he/she wants to go to.

This, but don't just contact admissions- contact the admissions tutor of the course you're applying for. For each university you're applying for.

NO University will allow final year transfers-in.

This is simply because you would have done most of your degree at another Uni - there is the question of compatibility of individual units etc, and they wont put their 'badge' on you because they don't want to risk the perceived academic standard of 'their' degree being questioned. Also, a final year is mostly exams and research projects - how can you sit exams on their 2nd year courses you have not actually studied?

Entry into 2nd year is sometimes possible, but would depend on there being places within that year's course cohort. ABW isnt offered at many Unis so your choices are going to be limited. All you can do is email their Admissions office (not the Dept) with full details of your A levels and your grades at Uni and see what they say.

Just be careful about using 'I'm transferring' as a sort of petulant revenge for not getting a decent grade. Is it actually this Uni that you are finding difficult or are there other issues - ie. social, homesickness, or the required level of work expected at degree level? Because these are things you wont ditch by just changing Unis.

Hey! I'm on the same situation as you. How did it go through? Did you finally transfer directly to the third year at another institution?

You would be better starting your own thread as this one is 7yrs old and a lot of the info may be out of date.

Short answer: it is very, very unlikely and entirely dependant on the policy of the incoming uni. You can ask, but it is likely to be a no.
