They assess you...

If you told us what it's for it might be easier to answer

normally it's just a general chat to see what is most worrying you, and to discuss how you feel about things. it's also useful for them to see what level of councilling they think you will need. in some areas it can also be used as an assessment to see how soon you need it, for example if it's not too serious they can put you on a waiting list.

when you start the session they will normally tell you what the session is for. good luck and i hope it works for you
The first session you will usually have to fill in at least one questionnaire, and the councillor will have a chat with you as described above. They are generally very helpful as at first trying to explain things isn't as straightforward as you'd expect.

assessment involves building up a basic idea of you generally.. so like things like if you go to school, who u live with, what u do in your spare time, then such things as what your problem is i.e. why you have been referred for assessment. hard to explain but im a nursing student where i've seen a lot of assessments and the process is basically just to allow to member of staff to gain as much information about you as possible in order to understand what's wrong with you and where the problem might have stemmed from.
Mine the other day involved her trying to determine a bit about my relationship with my parents, my problems as a teenager, being bullied at school, dropping out of uni. That was so she could best determine the causes of my depression, the best method of treatment, and why I had go so bad that I needed to be bumped up the waiting list (though I really do not recommend anyone else trying the same idea).

I saw a specialist a few weeks ago. I was given 2 questionnaires, and asked to describe my problem. I also explained a lot of factors in my life. She asked me at the end what helped I thought I needed.
