    If this is the new textbook I highly recommend you don't use that method. I took the exam last year and in all honesty that method really isn't very useful, just take moments about a point such that you only have one variable left in (normally if it's a ladder they have a rough floor and smooth wall, so you would take moments about the contact point with the floor to get rid of the normal reaction with the floor and the friction in your moments equation). Then just use the resolved forces (forces up=forces down, forces left =forces right) and get the answer

Taking moments about B would also give you the answer you require.The Edexcel M2 textbook introduces this strange method of taking moments about where the two forces meet, but to be honest, I've never used it while doing past papers.

    I will take both your advice and disregard this method as it's too difficult for me
