    I do think it's stupid that his only argument is that it is going to be ugly. However I would have thought that he would have hated the idea of locals trudging across his land even more.

    the royal engineers option as suggested in the bottom of the article is an interesting one which DC will never approve though.

    Tricky one but he's right to be worried about the precedence of allowing the footpath to be created on his land and then the issue of not getting it removed afterwards if the repairs to the existing bridge result in it not being suitable for foot traffic

    But at the end of the day it is his land and he has the right to decide what happens to it.
