I'm 54 and have only been abroad once (to Italy, in my 30s). When I was young I didn't know anyone who'd been abroad apart from "old" people who'd been in the forces. It doesn't make for a "complete" life as some insecurely competitive people with low boredom thresholds (i.e. lack of imagination) seem to think. Travel if you want to and can afford it. But there's hardly any need to if you don't want to. The whole world is now accessible by computer or travelogue DVDs nowadays and you avoid all the awful bits like queuing, passport/visa delays, lost baggage, hijack risk, plane crashes, unfinished hotels, DVT in cramped seats, Air Traffic Control strikes etc etc etc etc...I'm told air travel is hell these days compared to the stressless experience of years ago. Not that I'd know, personally. Nor care. Too many people are frightened of what other (often disturbingly shallow) people think.
