As you said, Unite Building is very new (I think it's still under construction), so I've never been there nor is there anyone who has experience of it. However, if money isn't an issue for you (I currently pay a little more than £80 per week, all bills included plus wi-fi, and I only have to share kitchen and bathroom), then you can try and go for it. Anyway, since you can't choose the exact hall you want to live in, I suggest you look for private accommodation, too, so you're 100% sure you get the option you want.

Ahhhh still under construction ok now I see why I can't find any reviews! I'm avoiding uni halls as they only have single beds and my girlfriend will be coming over to stay every now and again (from Canada). Thanks for the quick reply dude.

Since I posted that message I left my job so now I'll have the time to actually check out the places in person which is good.

Do you have any idea of when the student focused private housing starts to be listed again? I assume July time?

Most of the estate agencies have already released their lists! Check this out: it may be of help, since there are some links to websites where you can go house-hunting.

Hi, I'm a Swedish student who just accepted my unconditional offer to study English Lit at Portsmouth this September. I'm just wondering,

Is it Portsmouth really worth the £9000 a year? I really like the uni, but I'm I'm starting to get doubts. Probably just anxiety about starting uni haha.

Thanks a lot for this thread!

Hey, don't worry, I understand! As an international student, the money was a concern of mine, too! I can't judge Eng Lit because I'm not taking the course, but I can assure you my course is fantastic! I also know a girl from English Lit, who's in love with it and is looking forward to the second year optional unit, so no worries. Take a deep breath, all will go well. :P

Thank you so much! Also, how did you deal with homesickness? That's my big concern, since I can't go home on a whim. :frown:

I'm afraid I can't help with that; I never suffered from homesickness. In fact, I feel miserable when I have to go back to Italy. :')

If you do feel sad, though, surround yourself with friends and Skype with your family a lot. Also, if worse comes to worst, you can talk to someone at uni; they're very open and friendly and will offer you support in any shape and form they can. However, the best kind of help can only come from yourself: don't leave home with the idea that you will be homesick, because you'll end up actually feeling like that.

Stay positive and don't be scared!

Thank you so much  a question completely off topic; what does an average schedule look like? Do you have classes every day? How long are the lectures?

Someone already asked me something similar, so I'm going to copy-paste my answer to them:

It depends on the course. Mine is quite anomalous in that respect: I have tons of writing and research to do, but not much in terms of actual studying as is done in high school. However, my flatmates, who do "normal" courses, go to lectures, take notes, and study those plus the books on their reading lists. In general, you're very busy (and very panicking) right before an exam, while things are more relaxed afterwards (until the next one, at least). You also get some group work to do and it might be assessed, so don't take it lightly. However, a lot depends on the course you choose. I know someone doing Pharmacy and they have loads of lectures to attend, plus studying, while I've also met a Psychology student that goes out with friends, has fun, and still finds time to get their own work done. Again, it's all about the course, basically, so I'm sorry if this is really unspecific and vague.

Also, lectures usually last between one and two hours, although I've heard of three-hour lectures, but they're rare (fortunately) and probably workshops, though I can't say for sure. When I say "hour", think 45-50 minutes, because you're allowed around 10 minutes to move to the next classroom or building if you need to.

Also, here is a specific post about my course and schedule, if you'd like to check out a practical example.

Hi again

I understand Unite is taking viewings and bookings for the new building on Greetham Street, heard anything about it? I'm in Abu Dhabi until the 22nd and will be coming down on the 24th for a viewing hopefully. Fingers crossed they won't be fully booked by then.

I'm sorry, I've heard nothing about that. I'm not the best person to ask about how to get into student halls next year, since I'm leaving them soon and I only had direct experience of it last year. I'm completely useless when it comes to the new one, since, well, it wasn't there? XD

I really wouldn't study at Portsmouth not work the money I dropped out of there, I am now at coventry uni, you get a mac book pro and heavily subsidised trips to places like Berlin, New York and Amsterdam. I am on track for a 1st this is the first year this degree has run. and its brilliant.

is there a reason why you dropped out? I'm thinking of applying, but I'm not sure yet
