How to survive prom without a date?!

The ratio of boys to girls in my school is about 2:1, and seeing as i'm not the most confident guy, it looks as though i'll be going w/o a date to my year 11 prom in 2 weeks.

About half of my friends are going with dates.

My best case scenario is that theres a big group of 'singles' that don't have dates and just have a good time in a big group.

Mehhhhh

Prom already? I'm focusing on GCSE's at the moment, but that's you :p:

Don't worry, there's bound to be a bunch of single boys and some single girls. At the prom you just have fun, it's not about dates, it's about seeing your classmates for the last time (well most of them anyways)

just go with a group and have fun. I did the same thing.
I didn't have a date. I just went with my friends and ended up having a wicked time.

Luckily no-one really madea big deal about "dates" in my school. Everyone just ended up going with their mates. Even though for months before it was like "you need a date"

You don't. I think you'll have an awesome time with a date and an awesome time without

You say you're not the most confident guy, is there anyone you paticularly want to ask?
My prom is in June and i doubt i'll still be with my bf then so i'll be going alone with a group of single friends which will be really good as we'll get to have fun together, don't worry about it just go with friends and enjoy yourself

Does it really matter?
I mean at my year11 prom most people went with friendship groups including myself and some with dates, halfway through the evening most couples seperated to go see their friends and stuff. I wasn't remotely bothered about not having a date, I suppose I was to begin with then just shrugged it off and had a good time:biggrin: most couples just stayed with each other to have a picture taken :p:

Just have fun  it will be fine :p:Don't dwell on it though because I did for a while and figured that it wouldn't be fun if I did keep dwelling.

People just go and mingle, even if they have gone with dates!!

I'm not the most confident guy, but i suppose i'm quite good looking (not in a hunk sort of way..mostly described as 'cute'). There was one girl that i was going to ask, but my friend asked her first and she said that she wanted to go with her friends instead. Do you think that was a genuine reason or that she just didn't want to go with my friend..

In the weeks leading up to it the ONLY discussion in my school has been limos, suits, and dates. I wish it was less about spending 3 hours with a girl you hardly know and more about saying a big general goodbye to everyone!

Thanks for replies so far, I hope that it turns out how you describe and people just separate off into friendship groups.

P.S I love this forum..such quick and thoughtful replies!

She may actually want to go with friend, It's going to be one of the last evenings most people spend together, I mean at my prom I had people in my year come up to me i'd never really spoken to, to say bye and that was nice  I think that's the main point of a prom, you had boyfriend/girlfriend couples, random couples who virtualy seperated when they got in and more friendship groups than couples to be honest.
I had my prom 5years ago and in my school there was more girls than boys.

Sod a date, jus get a group of your mates, hire a limo n jus go have fun. That's what me and my best girlie mates did. Having a date for a prom isnt everything!

I could not stand it at my prom when people would come up to me and say 'Bye' when I had never even spoken to them in high school!! I felt like saying, "Well we really should say 'hi' first!!"

Just dance and stick with your mates.

No one had a date at my school, unless they actually had a boyfriend/girlfriend who was in the same year at our school. It seems so cheesy-American-teen-movie to have a 'date' for the prom. Ergh.

Thank you!
Yep went as a friendship group and once you're there you find a date

Our year 11 prom was soo much fun. Everyone just danced together and waited for formal photos!

Don't fret at all about not having a date!

The prom is supposed to be a big knees-up with everyone that you want to say bye to, and to ensure that you arrange another meeting up date in the future; and to say bye to all of those that you';d rather forget!!

My leaver's ball is in a couple of weeks, and I can't wait! I'm seeing a guy in my year at school, but I doubt I'll even talk to him one on one that evening! He's in my friendship group so I reckon all of us will just hang out together. So really don't worry about not having a date, if someone asked me I'd say no, cos my last school event is definately all about hanging with my friends, not some boy!

I miss the days when something so ridiculous was a concern.
