Well, erm, what else would they be associated with? Even I've been in Clareifornication twice, but then that is the most shockingly upfront scandal rag around

And I can't help but laugh at the boat club story - I'd make sure you get blokey to answer the door for any future occasions

Everything that I've read about Oriel on here sounds generally shite, and along with New - those were the two places that I was considering the most. I want to go somewhere which is fairly relaxed, middle-ranging in terms of academia, has a good bar and is famed for sociable students...am I on to losers with Oriel and New?

New's a really nice college.

Oriel's known to be quite right-wing and public school, and rowing's very important to them. Everyone hates Orial.

Oh, and New College have a Legolas wannabe rowing for their M1 - it made me giggle at least

I know him, we share a boathouse with New.

although the first time i was woken at 5.50am by a knock on my door & the boat club captain (who i'd never actually met) standing there to pick up the other half for a morning outing was a surprise..

I've had to do that before, the BC captain is a cox so he wouldn't have the same fear factor, or be able to knock the door hard enough.

You don't have gossip columns in your college papers do you?

 A gossip column? Noooo don't be silly, what would us students want with a gossip column? Nah, we have a dedicated newsletter instead

From what I've seen on the telly in the past two years - I'm sure that Acer Nethercot could shout the door down, never mind knock it hard, lol. Is he a scary bloke in real life? - all that pent up aggression in such a small frame.

A whole newsletter!!! No wonder oxbridge students are so scared about college relationships.
Along with most college bogsheets having gossip columns as well as a website seen by 700 students a day, if you're notorious enough you'll make Cherwell's gossip column, read by thousands weekly...

Acer's actually a really nice bloke, people seems to think the opposite for some reason - like most, he's a lot different outside the boat. Acer dosen't go to my college anyway, he goes to Univ.

Crap cox though. Should've picked Hackworth! Go Hackworth, woo!.

(Mind you, if Acer's a nice bloke and a crap cox, Hackworth may well be the complete opposite).

The advantage Pete has is that he's been coxing the Tideway since he was 14, so knows where the fast water is. Both are good though, Acer was just being to aggressive, it's one of those thing which looks obvious from the helicopter, but not so from the water level.

That's what you get for picking American coxes. Is Nethercott one of 'em Harvrad grads doing PG work at Oxford? If he is I'm going to resent him even more.

Ahem.

"I'm not obsessed about Harvard, really."

Hey, can't a man have a grudge nowadays?

Erm... He was born in Essex... started coxing when you came to Oxford as an undergrad.

Fair enough, assumed name like that implied Americaness in some way. I still hold my totally unjustified, baseless and ignorant view that Oxford would've won this year if Hackworth had been coxing.

Well, Acer coxed the Blue Boat in 2003 and Oxford won, so he was the form cox. I don't know, there's loads of ifs are maybes.

Wow - your college must be prolific  We have a page dedicated to it - everyone always turns straight to it as soon as they get their hands on the newsletter. Can be somewhat cringeworthy  as it's read in buttery lunch, so quite public.

Baz, you share with New? I thought you were a bit further down the river than that?
