What on earth? If your boyfriend thinking you're cute scares you, perhaps what you should do is rethink things.

Seriously though...what?

Lol I know what you mean, I speak a fair bit of French too and I hate speaking French to French people as they always giggle, but cute is a compliment! He's not saying you're bad at French or anything.

yea
he most likely thinks he complimenting you, if it really bothers you, tell him
although why would you be scared??
Reply 4
Do you think that he thinks you're not as good as him or something?
Just carry on doing it, there's no need to be embarassed. My best friend is a native German, and I don't get scared about speaking German to her anymore.

ahh my boyfriend was like that with me and spanish. He still says it's cute when i speak but my spanish is perfect now because I practiced with him, so it's worth it. just keep at it and laugh at his english :p:

ok calm! i just meant that he gets this look on his face like 'ooh at least you're trying'...it is patronising.

Practice makes perfect. Who cares what other people think?

I'm French, I'd like a British boyfriend, anyone interested? :p: Just kidding.

Och, speak French to him, even if he giggles... isn't he funny when he speaks English sometimes? My mates sometimes laugh when I mispronounce something, I just laugh with them, no big deal...

I completly understand your boyfriend.

I do speak in english to my girlfriend and apparently I do sound sexy and cute when I pronounce some words in a funny way.

I never understood that, because I dont want to sound like that, I want to sound proper english native speaker, and Im working on that but she doesnt want me to. Now that she's starting to learn spanish and practise with me, totally cracks me up and find it quite cute and 'different' from what Im used to hear.

I can't see why he should be patronising you :s-smilie: ..you're not french so he can't just expect you to be fluent in the language. I love it when my boyfriend tries to speak swedish to me and i dont expect him to be perfect at it. It's just the fact that he tries for my sake...

He has to help me with my english quite often so we're even anyhow

My Spanish teacher told us on the first day: "Joo laugh at my English, I laugh at your Spanish".

If it really bothers you, do the same with him, and maybe he'll get the hint.
if he finds it cute then it's a good thing
