BTEC IT Level 3 Subsidiary diploma

I'm currently studying this course and don't want to go onto year 2 however I'm in a pickle at the moment because I can't complete an assignment to complete a unit. It isn't a CORE unit so if I fail can I still get the diploma at the end of the year? I have handed in all assignments for Unit 1,2,3 which are the core the one I cant do is Unit 18 Assignment 2 about databases and all the bull****.

Do you think I can still get a Pass overall at the end of the first year if i dont pass unit 18 but pass everything else. Their is 7 units in this year if I pass 6 and fail one what will happen? Sorry this has got me very worried.

you need to at least pass every module to get the qualification at all (60 credits worth for the subsidiary diploma), it doesn't average out if you fail one

Are you certain about this? I thought because it is an optional unit it wouldn't matter as much as the 3 core ones? Damn i really dont want to fail this year :'(((

You need the core units which are 10 credits each and you need to at least pass these as well as passing the remaining units until you reach 60 credits at least that are passed, this is for a subsidiary diploma(equiv to 1 a level), for just the BTEC certificate(equiv to 1 as level) 30 credits would surfice but it is only worth half the qualification

Sounds like you know a lot about this stuff? How much is each optional unit worth (credit wise)?

I am planning doing this just one year? What qualification can I get just BTEC certificate? Do you have to do 2 years for subsidiary diploma?

The amount of credits each unit is worth is specified on the unit spec on the BTEC website, in IT all of them except the project (I think) are worth 10 credits each, I think the project is worth 20

If you have passed 3 units (totalling 30 credits) then you have a BTEC certificate providing you have done the core units for the certificate, again this information is listed on the BTEC website and I think there are only 2 core units for the Subsidiary Diploma and the Certificate which are unit 1 and unit 2 and/or potentially unit 3 , if you want the full subsidiary diploma you will need to do another 3 units (totalling 30 credits) this doesn't have to be done over 2 years, you can do it in 1 year if you want to but this has to be approved by your college first, they are done over two years to make them align them with the way A levels work because most Subsidiary Diploma students take a few A levels too, but really its about the amount of credits you complete

Yes but even if fail unit 18 i'm still doing 3 others units if i pass all those will i get 60 credit subsidiary diploma? I'm doing unit 1,2,3, which are definitely core units these aren't a problem. I'm most likely going to fail unit 18. I'm also doing units 28,30,31 If I pass all these that's 6 passed and 1 fail is that still 60 credits or no?

one of my assignments I submitted through turn it in had 39% similarity. I didn't even realised so much was similar as most of it was my own work I did use the btec handbook but changed the words around and now most of the text is highlighted in red this is for my unit 3 a1 assignment. What can happen? I tried emailing my dumb teacher who never replies with an updated assignment about 2 months which he ignored mefor unit 3 a1 which i changed nearly all the words around and now I think they are going to send of my old unit 3 a1 with the high similarity?!!! Is this my fault as I did email him a week after I was shown my similarity rate was to high with the updated assignment?

Your doing equiv to 1 A-Level, I wouldn't really compare them though. Maybe in future but for now... no. Don't ask if I know because I don't take A-Level ICT/Computer Science.

Well then why would you comment if you have no understanding? I do and i csn tell you that the BTEC IT/Computing is far superior to the A level equivalents

Also the assignments arent just reading and rewriting in your own word as you put it, they can consist of various assessment methods including: observed practicals, exams, written assignments, development (for computing this could be programming, db development, website scripting etc.), there are also 3 units which include maths requiring you to solve routine problems based on the course content, which is similar to the maths i did in the first year of my degree

Not going to argue. A-Level>BTEC currently check an international university on British Qualifications.

Cool, check employment statistics for both grads and non-grads BTEC>A level

They are equal qualifications and although they are not widely accepted internationally they are accepted by most if not all universities in this country, and as i said they have better employability rates, not only that lead to worthwhile fields to work in such as Engineering and IT.

Maybe on non-traditional degrees yea, but STEM... no.
