Ok so. the biggest lecture course is formal logic (12 in a term as opposed to the usual 8 or 4 lectures per course) and you have logic classes every other week...but really it's not as bad as it sounds!
I know some people found it overwhelming at first, but the staff are lovely and if you tell your DoS, or your logic class tutor, extra supervisions can be arranged. I know A LOT of people doing this and it's nothing to be embarrassed/worried about.
I don't remember there being a formal logic part on the test?? I can't imagine they'd've expected you to know any formal logic as they teach it from scratch...! so maybe it was just to see how you adapt to know things
Also...I still think you're taught formal logic in year 2....but in the actual exam you don't have to answer the formal logic questions so really yeah you could effectively not do it if you wanted - but it's super useful to get to know! I know a 3rd year though who's managed to have only done 45 mins of formal logic questions (1 questions on the first year paper) so yeah it can be avoided
Being shy should not be a problem!
Your discussion group tutor might give you a bad report like: 'needs to be more vocal' but people in my year are lovely and the discussions really aren't debate-y but more....discussion-y ;L
general advice??...do your work
...be patient?? like don't stress about things happening straight away everyone here is so busy and it's hard for speedy responses.... don't forget to have chill time... even with the workload you should be able to meet up with your friends every night for ~1 hour; its important to get that balance and take a break!
...and join some extra curriculars!! (again; balance
)
Hope that helps
