ATP has been broken down into ADP in order for energy to be released to the muscles (respiration). Hydrolysis is breaking bonds using water.

It's not just used in muscle cells, but pretty much many chemical reactions within cells and other functions e.g. transportation of molecules and protein synthesis.

The conversion (breaking down) of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) into Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP) is done via Hydrolysis (Breaking down a molecule via water) which is catalysed (Sped up) using the enzyme ATPase or aka ATP Hydrolase

This is why Biologists need Chemistry

ATPHydrolase catalyses the reaction which breaks down the bond between the terminal phosphate and the previous phosphate.

You're probably also expected to know about ATPSynthase. ATPSynthase does the opposite in that it catalyses the reaction which involves joining an inorganic phosphate molecule to to ADP. This reaction will produce water a product as it involves the removal of a water molecule.
