Haha yeh I get what you mean. But an Arab is technically one who speaks Arabic, no?

So therefore if Somalia is a country where one of the common languages is Arabic, or Somaliland, then they therefore would and should be considered as Arabs.

I mean you can be considered African and be an Arab at the same time.

Or am I just confusing myself? Well that's my personal belief anyway and I know alot of other Arabs think the same too.

now im just confused!
but an arab is also someones whos perants/ancestors is an arab ? so say if someones egyption but cant speak arabic doesnt that still make them arabs?

Reply 182

Nah I mean like if the country that the person is from is a place where Arabic is predominantly spoken, then they're Arabs. Just speaking Arabic doesn't make one an Arab, as anyone can learn Arabic.

I think it's more a case of the actual country speaking Arabic and not the person [and course where the person's parents and ancestors are from]. If I'm not mistaken, Arabic is widely spoken in Somalia [not sure about Somaliland], thus people from there are considered as Arabs.

I don't think I make much sense lol :p:

Most Somalis if not all have some sort of Arab ancestors...T'is how Islam came to Somalia in the first place. Nevertheless, it's been a member of the Arab League since the 70s and technically seen as an 'Afro-Arab' state.

Arabic is one of the official languages of Somalia and even in terms of culture there's a lot of things that migrated from the Arabian Peninsula to Somalia...particularly Yemen.

There's no difference between Somalia and Somaliland.

Yeh I thought so. Some of my ancestors migrated from Yemen to Somalia. And then migrated to Saudi.

Oh. I thought Somaliland was different to Somalia or am I mistaken?

Somaliland is basically the northern bit what is considered Somalia that in the last few years managed to remain pretty stable (compared to the rest of the country). From what I understand they've formed their own government to deal with their issues and have asked recognition from the rest of the world to form their own state (Somaliland) but haven't succeeded.

In terms of language, culture, religion, ethnicity etc...it's no different to the rest of Somalia.

Oh okay lol. I have this friend that's from Somaliland. And I find it weird that when I asked her if she's Somalian, she's like 'nah I'm not. I'm a malilander'

So I thought they were different in their ways.

True alot of Arabs are very light, but I find the lightest of the Arabs are the Iraqis.

But, nearly all other Arab races tend to have variations from fair to very dark.

Lol. Well take pride in being the different one :p:

To be honest, I'd rather not be white or that fair. I prefer my colour because it's sorta tanned/light brown.

Olive skin is nice though :yy:.
