I am asking for my friend here, say that you don't get into a Pharmacy job can you switch to another job like researching for a cure or is that the job solely for Biomedical Scientists? Since, some degrees are very specific in terms of jobs.

    Yup, definintely.

You could do your MPharm, do your pre-reg and become a qualified pharmacist (so you have something to fall back on if it doesn't work out), do a PhD, and work in labs where the initial stages of drug discovery and development (target identification and validation) - essentially what pharmacologists do. Once you come up with a promising drug molecule (lead optimisation), big pharmaceutical companies like GSK / AstraZeneca may decide to take it off you and develop it further (formulation, clinical trials, submit evidence to regulatory authorities such as FDA/MHRA/EMeA, carry out post-marketing surveillance).
