Sorry - more Halton Questions

I understand i'll have to learn alot of this the hard way but i keep thinking of things and i want to be as prepared as possible. (very scared of failing)

so if anyone could help answer some questions it would be much appreciated.

I was wondering first of all if i do need to take trouser bungees since they're on the kit list - or are they definately not used anymore?

Also - i know we have to have quick 5 minute showers after physical training but can we have proper showers at other times of the day (e.g from a girls persepective the full wash including hair, shaving legs, drying time, dressing etc could be 45mins-1 hour) so obviously all we'd have time for after PT would be soap and a quick dry off!
- and theres another point. I'm allergic to soap and lots of soapy products but i know i can use some "Lush" shower gels, shampoo bars and body butters so i'l probably take them - but will i still need to take one to keep unused for inspection purposes?

And is there a block of shower cubicles or do we have to queue up for a few communial ones?

Also - on the last day of passing out parade is there a formal dinner? If so are family invited and what do we wear (e.g do i need to go and buy a nice pretty frock/gown or will nice trousers/top do?)

sorry for being a panichead but i want this all to work out for me its what i've wanted for a long time (and its finally starting to sink in - 2 weeks to go!)

thankyou all for your invaluable support and help over this time by the way. I hope it will be me "on the other side" some day :-) (i will take notes at Halton for others!)

They're definitely not allowed anymore.

You'll have time in the evenings - use it as you will, so long as everything else you've got to do (kit, inspections, rounds etc) are done.

Soap isn't used for inspections.

Sorry, no dea about girlie's cubicles (I only spent time in their messes ) but I believe they have cubicles for the females, opposed to a communal one the lads have to use.

No idea about the RAF, don't believe so though. Certainly wasn't for the Navy, and I wouldn't think so for the RAF. Nothing to stop you arranging it with flight members I suppose...

I have bought trouser bungees today even though people have said that they are not allowed. I thought it best to get them just incase

Don't bother taking them you cant use em and if you have em and get tempted and get caught you will get it kicked!

There is no formal dinner at the pass out parade although parents are invited to eat lunch in the mess. Dressing smart (Family and guests) is all part of the day. Remember those passing out (you) will be in full parade dress. Then on the night you will have a leaving part in the Newcomers club (after all of your guests have departed). Smart casual is fine for this.

Also, make sure that the DI staff are aware of your allergy as they will ensure that you are looked after.

I have a question, does anyone know if we will be allowed to take a portable television to Halton? I only want to take it to watch the Champions League Final. Thought we could have it on in background are whatever. I know we probably won't be allowed to take one but its worth a try!

Thanks!

Don't bother for a few reasons - 1, you don't have the storage space, 2, you live in communal rooms and watching TV at un-godly hours or turned up too loud or just watching Eastenders is likely to make you unpopular with your peers 3, most big footie games will be shown in the Newcomers Club and this is where you should watch it in order to intergrate with the social aspect of being in the RAF. 4, you will have to buy a TV licence as you can't use your one from home and finally........ The TV signal on the hill is crap.

Hmm fair enough! I just thought that we wouldn't be allowed into the Newcomers Club after the first week but I'll take your word for it

Thanks

Wise you are- . No seriously, it is called the Newcomers Club because you are new to the RAF not the Recruit course.... This is your facility for the duration of the course......Unless you F^&* up your Inspections that is.......

Im currently in 7 Flt at Halton ...

Bungees are no longer used (although some people stilldo use them)

you WILL have a shower every morning, then once you've been set down for the night you can do as you wish, I believe one of the girls on my Flt said that females have cubicle showers, but lads have communal.

Don't take extra stuff for inspection purposes, they will check that it is the stuff you use, Especially for the day 14 inspections. Soap is used for inspecitions if you don't have shower gel, but you must also have a CLEAN soap dish.

I don't know about passing out as I have 7 weeks to go yet lol..

NCC is actually closed to the the new recruits untill after you pass your day 14 inspection (to stop people drinking alcohol within the first 2 weeks), in which you will be issued your "Naffi pass". With exception to one of the first days as you are ordered to go in order to meet other recruits and get to know each other. Although the shop is open to all. If something happens and you get a sick chit (from doctors/physio) then you can also not use NCC or MGs.
