    So the question says to find te structure of B. I thought since the cyanide can act as a nucleiphile it can donate a lone pair of electrons to the carbon in the centre. I'm not sure why they got rid of the chlorine.

    The C-Cl is polar and the C is delta positive, which attracts the lone pair on the C of CN-.
