Plate Waiting

Can anyone give me some tips on doing plate waiting. Firstly I'm getting a bit confused. Some people say you serve from the left and pick up everything from the right. Some say you serve from right, pick up from the left. Which way is correct?

Who do you start serving first, the person who appears to be paying? The lady at the table? :confused:

I think its women first oldest to youngest and then the men.

We've all given our own experiences in your other thread. Posting another one will not get different answers. It will depend on where you work and the formality and customs there. Once you start silver-service training you will be shown by someone how to do it. You cannot blag it and you will be trained to do it. Be patient.

The reason I started another thread is because I thought the rules about who's served first etc would be different for plate-waiting, which I think is less posh than silver service.
