What's wrong with denim shorts?

I bought some knee length denim shorts today that i have been after and i showed them to my boyfriend and he really didn't like them. When he looked through my shopping like he does, before he removed them from the bag he automatically thought denim skirt and gave them a weird look when he held them up as if for a minute he wasn't sure quite what they were. It doesn't bother me hugely that he doesn't like them, i didn't buy them for him, but when i asked him why he didn't like them he didn't give me a proper answer he just shrugged. Is anybody else really against denim shorts and what do you think is wrong with them?

i love them!! Ive got some denim hotpants from topshop which i wear nearly all the time, but everyone seems to have them.. its not fair!

My boyfriend looks at most my clothes trying to work out what they are he was especially confused over the wrap round top!...It's a male thing...

Although his was intrigued with the skirt that had buttons all the way down and insisted "because I can" he had to undo every button...None except the top one have ever been undone in the 2-3 years I've ha dthe skirt!

Maybe he's just weird! I'm sure he'll like them more once you're wearing them.. perhaps he just can't tell what they're going to look like. not that it matters anyway! I actually really like them in the right cut and colour and am looking for a pair, but they all seem to be rather *snug* on my rather *chunky* thighs lol!

Im not anti- denim shorts, Ive actually seen a few pairs that I quite like.
I think it very much depends on the style though.

Denim shorts I think in general tend to look a bit dated so I think it depends how you dress them up and wear them.
I think denim shorts/bags are coming back though Ive seen alot about recently.

As for your initial q, I personally wouldn't like denim knee-length shorts cos there's just too much denim for me [*really* not a denim person lol]. I like the denim short-shorts with tights, I think they look good - don't suit me but I think they look really good on certain people! But yeah, denim seems a bit odd a material to make knee-length shorts out of :s-smilie:

May I ask why? There's a lot more material in jeans and surely you don't think those look odd?

I don't think jeans are too odd but that's probably more due to the fact that jeans are such a thing in themselves, a staple for so many that one can't help but be conditioned to them; I personally don't like wearing jeans, I have a pair cos I needed them for my old job but I avoid wearing them now, don't like denim!

To me denim items just aren't that great. I don't like denim skirts of any length, nor jackets, bags, whatever. The only denim thing I look at and think, "Hey, it'd be cool if I could pull that off" is the short-shorts, rather specifically, with tights :smile:

That's not to say other people look bad in denim; but in considering a sole item [in this case, knee length shorts] I can only project whether I would personally like them and I just know that I wouldn't. But hippieglitter might look really good in them :biggrin:

I really like denim shorts. I have quite a few pairs in different lengths and colours.
My fiance hardly ever likes things I buy and I always get strange looks and then when he sees them on he's always like: "Actually it looks nice." He just has no fashion sense at all.
